[Best of] THE TOP 330 MOVIES OF THE 1990s

RIPPA

Recommended Posts

Alright, so I voted for all three movies in the Three Colors TrilogyBlue got 5 votes, Red got 5 or more votes, but White got only 2 votes. I was the high vote, I assume Yo-Yo was the other. White is my personal favorite of the trilogy. I assume the people who voted for Blue also voted for Red. So...do all of those people just not think White is anywhere near as good as the other two, or did many of the voters just not see it?

I didn't vote for White. I would probably have it in the 150-200 range (I believe I had Red around number 15, for comparison's sake). Part of it may be down to the fact that I've only seen White once, whereas I've had the chance to rewatch the other two, but I don't think White has anywhere near the depth or scope of the other two. I would have liked Blue to have made the top 100, but being as it didn't make the countdown at all last time, I have to be pleased. Man, what a performance Bincohe gives.

130) HOME ALONE
1990 - 323 Points - 4 Votes (Highest Vote: #12 Newb82)

DIRECTOR: Chris Columbus
STARRING: Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern
Placement On Original List: N/A

If you wanna see some weird outtakes look up the two Uncle Frank ones, in one it has Frank pulling down Kevin's pants to say that the French will call him "Yank" and the other is him singing in the shower while Kevin watches/films then he threatens to slap Kevin silly.

I never knew the second one, that ended up being in part 2, was meant for the original.

Looking at my ballot, the 4 I've got lined up between his spot and mine are all basically fluid. I should have paid more attention to my previous ballot.

I was the other vote for White. It was the least of the 3 for me, which basically makes it the maple bar with the glazed and the cruller. I'm eating all of those mother fuckers.

More than made up for by Affleck's spectacular performance.

I fucking hated Dogma.  I have my issues with organized religion, too, but I'm not a dick about it.

Dogma would've been more bearable with less smarmyness and more Affleck and Damon being awesome.

Everyone is on the board now. My last update was when the list was at 225. So over a 100 movies later and there was a lot of movement. During that stretch Tim Evans didn't get one high vote. Newb82 had the most with 9. Televiper's stranglehold at the top of board may be coming to an end.

NOTE FROM RIPPA - I'm more surprised this didn't make the original list more than anything else.

113) BREAKING THE WAVES
1996 - 353 Points - 6 Votes (Highest Vote: #18 jaedmc)

DIRECTOR: Lars von Trier
STARRING: Emily Watson, Stellan Skarsgård, Katrin Cartlidge
Placement On Original List: #271 (2 Votes)

NOTE FROM RIPPA - Just from eyeballing it, this might be the movie from the original list that made the greatest jump up the list. Caley got himself some back up this time.

As a side note to earlier, I haven't seen Home Alone since I was a kid, have fond memories of it, and am absolutely terrified to re-watch it being that Chris Columbus directed it, and he's really fucking bad.

I did not vote for it, I am fairly certain.

You should watch it again, as long as you know what you're in for.

I rewatched it a couple of years ago and found a lot more to like about it than when I was a kid. Catherine O'Hara, for example, is perfect throughout and her scene with John Candy is really good stuff. I think without the little heartfelt moments with her, the movie becomes even more of a shallow cartoon - which is kind of what happened with Lost in New York.

Well you didn't have to be The Amazing Kreskin to guess I'd be highvote on a Lars Von Trier film.
