My point is that all the TCOTs, Freepers and Real 'Muricans who were RAAAAAAGE spittle-spewing over the very idea of that socialist Obama trying to get the Olympics to HIS city (never mind that Bush was the one who got the ball rolling) will be falling all over themselves to put Trumpy on Mount Rushmore for the exact same thing. I'm calling that shit right now. Maybe, but its not as if LA(or California in general) is very high on their list. . . .
Dolfan in NYC
Steven Holcomb, who got the USA their first gold in bobsledding in 50 years has died. http://www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/id/19325347 He was 37.
Dolfan in NYC
So, it appears a deal is being worked out for the 2024 games to be hosted by Paris. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, this will be a hundred years after they first hosted. The caveat is, the IOC appears to be ready to award the 2028 games to LA. (Over potential bids by the likes of Brisbane, Toronto, Buenos Aires, and Nairobi.) This could all happen as soon as the IOC meeting tomorrow, even though the formal vote won't happen until September.

RIPPA
For all intents and purposes - Paris will be getting the 2024 Summer Olympics and LA will get the 2028 ones Granted - things could change but basically the IOC changed the rules to allow the two cities to work out a deal
Brian Fowler
In a sentence I never thought I'd type in my life: I really wish more cities would act like Boston. Tell the Olympics to go fuck themselves. (Ironically, I love the Olympics themselves)
NikoBaltimore
If I lived in LA I'd be mortified to live there while the Olympics are going on. Traffic's bad enough but that would make it metric tons worse. And if they're still in financial trouble then the worst thing they could do is host the Olympics. Greece had their Olympics last decade and it fucked up their financial situation much worse than it already was.
Ace
Meh. A couple hundred thousand extra people in town won't make much of a difference. We constantly get it for something or other. We just take different freeways. In reality, a Los Angeles Olympics doesn't take place in just Los Angeles. It'll cover all of L.A. and Orange County with some probable Riverside. Remember when TNA came to LA with Bound for Glory? It actually went to Irvine, 40 miles away.
Greggulator
YO THE OLYMPIC CHANNEL! The Olympic Channel is the best. They're showing The World Games. I am currently watching something called FISTBALL. It's like volleyball but on grass and you can let the ball bounce once and can only use your fist. It's awesome. They also have kayak polo (water polo but with people in boats) and a bunch of other weird sports that aren't in the Olympics. I highly recommend ignoring korfball. AxB
Usain Bolt bows out in London. With a Bronze in the Men's 100 metre final. Justin Gatlin won, and got booed out of the stadium every time he was shown.

Dolfan in NYC
Switzerland has officially thrown its hat in the ring for the 2026 Winter Games. They have pledged $1 Billion for Sion's bid. Other cities considering a bid: Sapporo (Hosted in '72, won't get it because '22 is in Beijing) Salt Lake City (nope, LA in '28) Calgary (see: City, Salt Lake) Lillehammer (Hosted in '92, only other one with a real chance, will be hurt by Oslo's withdrawal in '22) Almaty, Kazahstan (lol no) Host city will be chosen July '19. S.K.o.S.
Russia banned from 2018 Winter Olympics LAUSANNE, Switzerland — Russia’s Olympic team has been barred from the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The country’s government officials are forbidden to attend, its flag will not be displayed at the opening ceremony and its anthem will not sound. Any athletes from Russia who receive special dispensation to compete will do so as individuals wearing a neutral uniform, and the official record books will forever show that Russia won zero medals. J.T.
I await the accusations of US meddling in the IOC's decision making process. We will vehemently deny all allegations and assure them that there was no collusion between us and the IOC to conspire against them.

I await Trump appealing to the point where Russia is reinstated and awarded every single extant medal, gold silver and bronze. Including team events. Death From Above
Russia out is a start. I'll take it more seriously when US track and field records are treated with the same universal respect that's always been shown to Soviet weightlifting records. But still, it's a start.
