The 2016 NBA Finals: Cleveland vs Golden State

Biggest choke job in history. At least we can finally put to rest that ridiculous notion that Steph Curry is some legit GOAT. He's Reggie Miller with better Davis brothers who get away with more bullshit on screens.

He was the third best player on his own team.

He wasn't even the best point guard in this series as Kyrie outplayed him in every facet.

Hell, the winning strategy was to pick and roll until Steph was guarding LeBron or Kyrie and take advantage of his pathetic defense.

Told y'all.

PS: Curry didn't deserve his first MVP. That one belonged to James Harden.

Put down the pills man.

The Olympics?  You could leave three players off the Olympics squad and still win a Gold.

Best player?  Nah, sorry.  Kyrie Irving was the series MVP.  Hands down.

LeBron led ALL players in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals in the series. Kyrie wasn't winning shit.

That JR Smith press conference was awesome. Love the hell out of that dude.

Are we just going to ignore that KEVIN LOVE locked up STEPH CURRY on the probably the biggest play of the Warrior's season or what?  That video will needs to be upped too.  I thought he was going to foul him about 5 times and LOVE held his ground.

I drove to my dad's house for Father's Day and just got home after a 3 hour drive or so, which was a good amount of time to collect my thoughts. I don't know what the game was like for other people, but the last few minutes were excruciating for me. I hate the curse stuff, which I mercifully don't have to hear about anymore, and I've never believed in it. I've always been a nervous but optimistic fan, but tonight, I just assumed that things were going to go wrong. Kyrie hit that three and I was like "Oh, now Steph will hit two in a row and that's it." Nothing makes sense right now to me.

I think it's a credit to the Warriors that it took a suspension and a Bogut injury and a superhuman Lebron James and they still went seven. That team is insane and it's a shame that they will be relegated to a trivia answer or part of Lebron's legacy or whatever. They were great. There is no other word for it. They deserve every bit of praise they got.

I thought that the Warriors, for the first time ever, looked a bit over coached. To me, it seemed like Kerr had seen that the Cavs were crashing the glass early off the big men of the Warriors in the previous games, and so Curry, Draymond and Thompson all looked for Varajao and Ezili on interior passes constantly. It was not effective. I also think the game turned when Kerr put Festus back in, although that might have been a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. Who knows. I thought Lue learned just enough of a lesson and found time in the fourth to rest Thompson and Irving and that made a huge difference. It must have been so hard to give Kyrie rest when he was heating up, but doing so gave him the legs to hit that three over Curry.

This may come back to haunt me, but I don't see Lebron leaving. It's hard to leave a team that just won a title. They have another mid level trade exception, they can trade Love (who has a desirable contract with the cap going up and on the 5 year old max) and Thompson and Irving are both on tremendously friendly deals and are young, 24 and 25 respectively. I think he signs another 2 year deal with the player option. that being said, I think they run it back. They may listen to offers, but I think they eventually stand pat.

Now that the Cavs have won, I want others to bask in this same glorious feeling. I want @Kuetsar and @Craig_H to feel this same feeling that I have right now. Go Bills. Go Cubs.

So apparantly Charles Oakley, repping Cleveland, got into it with security outside the locker room.

There may be scarier things said other than Oak saying "Touch me and see what the fuck happens", but not many.

Just remember: If you are in the Finals and you say the "NBA finals are rigged" on Instagram (which they are), then the referees in the Finals will make sure your team doesn't get any calls going their way.

I watched Game 7 and within the first seconds of the game, I see LeBron James do an offensive foul so I knew his team would win and the referees (and Adam Silver and the NBA) would help him.

I still think LeBron James is softer than Charmin and Pillsbury Dough Boy combined, whiny and overrated player who cries to the referees when calls don't go his way. Because he's LeBron James, he doesn't get a referee that says "no, fuck you" and give him a technical or toss him out of the game.

Congrats to the rest of the Cleveland Cavaliers team for finally winning a championship and FUCK YOU to LeBron James who didn't deserve it.

Let's be real as well: Golden State Warriors blew it -- they seriously can't say they are that great after losing a 3-1 lead. Of course, the referees made sure of it but still.

My co-worker from Akron started sobbing when he watched the news report this morning on the television in the common area of our branch and he'd been up all night watching the game and festivities, so I will allow my stone heart to give love to the long suffering fans of Believeland.

Game 7 might have been the best officiated game in the series, which is not saying much but it's important.  The Warriors shot 41 threes.  They weren't getting to the line.

The refs didn't get locked down by Kevin Love, of all people, on the biggest isolation play of your season.  I'll give you the Draymond Green conspiracies, I guess, but you can't get blown out in game 5 and 6, and say it was some grand conspiracy holding your team down.  Unless the Warriors were in on it.:o  I mean Anderson Varejao was so cringe-worthy bad in that game....MOLE?

There's a video of the Charles Oakley incident.  Nothing too wild.  Oakley just being Oakley.

JR said it best.

I am very happy for Cleveland. I watched the game last night at a bar in Philly that is the home base for Browns games and Cavs playoff games, with my wife and our closest friend who is a Cleveland native. It was a great atmosphere. Terrific and wonderful. I think a championship always means more to a place like Cleveland than to other cities. Obviously, this is mostly the drought. But Cleveland obviously has had its downs (and ups), but everyone I've ever met from there loves it. They left for various reasons -- school and work -- but still love it, and go back home and really wouldn't mind moving back one day.

GSW is also one of the weirder fan bases right now. They were the cult team for years in the Bay Area. They had huge and loud crowds even when they trolled out a lineup with a starting Corey Maggette. They deservedly became a national bandwagon team. 73-9 is absolutely fucking insane and they've reinvented the game of basketball, and in a good way. And even though Steph fell out in the NBA Finals, he's still absolutely electrifying and deserved the MVP this season. I mean, he arguably had THE BEST regular season. Ever. But the Bay Area has become pretty insufferable (sorry if you live there) with the tech money and Google bus stuff.

It took LeBron James playing what are probably the best back-to-back-to-back games in NBA history (considering it's the finals and not some random regular season week I'm sure someone can dig up) to pull it off, along with a huge outburst from Kyrie, and a key suspension and injury.

GSW had a team for the ages, and I'm glad I got to watch them play.

But there's no asterick or footnote for CLE's win. They absolutely deserved to win.

LeBron's chasedown block is the best defensive play I remember seeing. It's just the defining play of all he is. He's the most athletically talented player probably ever and has the highest basketball IQ possible. He saw Steph's pass, accelerated, took the right angle and also realized (or maybe calculated) JR was going to make Andre pump. He had to do all of that to pin the ball against the board. Like... that's as close to a superhero in real life as possible. How the hell does someone do that?

Some fun hypotheticals thrown out by Chad Ford today:

Quote

The Love-Melo trade

Knicks send: Carmelo Anthony to Cleveland
Wolves send: Tyus Jones to Cleveland; Shabazz Muhammad, Gorgui Dieng, Nikola Pekovic and No. 5 pick to New York
Cavs send: Kevin Love to Minnesota

------

Kings send: DeMarcus Cousins to OKC; No. 8 pick to New Orleans
Thunder send: Steven Adams and Cameron Payne to Sacramento; Enes Kanter to New Orleans
Pelicans send: Omer Asik to OKC; Tyreke Evans to Sacramento

Kevin Love heading back to Minnesota would be hilarious, but a line up of Love, KAT, Wiggins, and Rubio would be straight up Hugh Morris shit. Terrifying. I doubt New York gives up Melo with the big piece coming back being the 5th pick in a top 2 heavy draft. I get where Ford is going with it (Knicks go full in on the rebuild) but has there been any indication of Jackson thinking that way?

OKC's bench would be the absolute shits if that second trade were to happen. But Boogie and Westbrook in the same motherfuckin' place at the same motherfuckin' time? Insanity and I would sign up for league pass to see all of the games.

edit: I just realized I posted this in the wrong thread. WHOOPS and sorry.

J.R. Smith doing the touching Father's Day speech was followed by a shirtless J.R. Smith spraying a woman at a Vegas casino with champagne was followed by a shirtless J.R. Smith getting off the plane in Cleveland hours later.

Dude is the best.

I can't get over how awful those Anderson Varejao minutes were in last night's game.  Fouling. Stripped.  Out-rebounded. I almost positive he was out there less than 10 minutes and I can still remember his lack of contribution out there.

I'm going to re-watch the game to make sure I'm not overstating it.

JR definitely helped setup the chase down block(and it was a block) by slowing Iggy down without fouling. Not overlooked.
