Someone that's more knowledgeable please help: I was talking with my wife about how

Spoiler

Rocket possibly didn't die because he's the only one of his kind, so there wasn't a species to cut in twain. But I couldn't remember if Groot and Drax were the last of their kind as well. Is that a reasonable guess on Rocket, and do Drax and Groot still have inhabited planets somewhere?

I think every dissappearance was totally random.  I don't think the Gauntlet was discerning species, I think it was just nuking 50% of the entire galactic population at random.  Else there's an argument for Quill not getting dusted since he's half-Celestial.

Plus, if Drax's backstory is true, his planet should have already been culled.

Otherwise...Groot is not the only Groot (I think), while Rocket's deffo a lab experiment (oddly enough, from a planet called Halfworld).

It surely has more to do with geographical population distribution than the number of a certain species.

Spoiler

This actually does make more sense if Thanos is concerned about conserving resources on each planet (which is what he was up to before the quest for the stones) rather than just generally throughout the universe.

That was fun. I'll always be unhappy with movies that reduce supporting heroes and especially villains to obstacles rather than characters, but that's a function of being a movie instead of a comic or TV show. It's a complaint I've had dating back to the treatment of Cyclops and Sabretooth in X-Men. liked it enough to see it a second time when the GF is free.  Bold prediction: after this past weekend's take, the Russos will announce their exit from the Quantum and Woody pilot that's in dev hell.

See, this is one of my personal phobias, the whole "how do ants comprehend the building of an interstate around their hill" kind of thing.  It's why Lovecraft resonates with me, I suppose.

Also, I'm digging these narratives popping up blaming

Starlord's outburst

for the whole outcome.

Now, if "Ant Man & Wasp" does not have an expositional text box in the lower right corner that reads, "These events take place before the end of Avengers: Infinity War - Ed.", I'll be a little disheartened.

I have a feeling they'll do worse.

Spoiler

In the stinger, either Hank, Janet, Hope, or Cassie are gonna turn to ash.

What's the logic for Thor 2 being so high? It's got some fun sight gags but...

I just really enjoyed it in the theater. It's kind of the opposite of much of the back half of the list where high expectations weren't met. I had an antipathy to Thor at that point based on how little I thought of the first movie, I got dragged to see Dark World, and I had a really good time. If I watched it again this second I'd probably have a better argument involving it being the harbinger for a lot of the humor and fun cosmic stuff that followed. Or maybe I'd reconsider it and drop it down the list.

Cristobal's list reminds me i need to watch Civil War  and Black Panther sometime soon.  And Spidey: Homecoming.  And the Andrew Garfield Spidey films.  And, well, about half the list.  Actually, I don't think I've seen the Tobey Spidey film with Sandman and Venom all the way through.

At least someone has the proper respect for Age of Ultron.

I'm always shocked how many people didn't like it. It's one of like less than ten movies I've seen in a theater twice.

I love it, but if it wasn’t for James Spader’s performance that movie wouldn’t be half as good as it is.

He's great. He manages to both come across as a blend of Tony's sarcasm and insecurities with Banner's just buried rage, and as a completely detached machine, with just his voice. The only MCU villain I would definitely rank above Ultron is Killmonger. Maybe Loki. That's it.
