Jiji
So disappointing and honestly a bit surprising as to how the series has unfolded. The only positive thing is hopefully this gets GMs valuing speed over size (of course, both is ideal but, as JBL likes to remind us thrice a week, it's a rare combination) and coaches looking to move the puck quickly and crisply in transition. It's a bit heartbreaking for Joe and Marleau to wait almost 20 years to get to a final and then get thoroughly outplayed. Particularly so when they looked so impressive against quality teams. But those teams they beat were bruisers largely. They never faced a team with the speed of the Penguins.
odessasteps
This also dispels the notion that the west is so much better than the east.
Jiji
Not really. WC teams have still won 7 of the last 9 (soon to be 10) cups.
Death From Above
How does one team in the east winning dispel the notion there are playoff teams in the east that very clearly would not be so in the west? You could drive a mac truck through the holes in that logic.
Niners Fan in CT
I've always liked the Penguins dating back to my old NHL games but I can understand some people not wanting to see Sid win another cup. It's not over though. We've seen the Pens blow series in the past. Also, the Penguins were terrible for much of the season, did anyone see this coming from them? I was looking at maybe a first round exit, second round exit if they matched up well but a run at the cup I did not see coming. Despite having Sid and Malkin who really didn't light it up to their usual standards.
evilwaldo
Despite the series being 3-1 the games are much closer. It is a fine line that separates the two teams and the puck has been falling more on the Penguins side.
Buy Me a Burrito
Roman Polak is just terrible.
odessasteps
Firewagon hockey in game 5. 2-0 SJ is now 2-2 after 5 minutes.
Niners Fan in CT
Sharks impressing. After going up 2-0 early and then surrendering the lead they could have folded but instead came back and regained the lead.
Jiji
So much pressure. If San Jose manages to hold on, and that's a big if, they can't get outshot in game 6.
Jiji
Holy shit, this period has been amazing hockey. Logan Couture is a bona fide superstar.
Death From Above
Martin Jones really deserves Conn Smythe chatter but if the Sharks don't get it done it's not going to happen.
Jiji
Roman Polak cannot handle Pittsburgh's speed. Who is their 7th d-man that must be the worst because he hasn't gotten a game even with Polak's struggles?
BobbyWhioux
Vlasic is hurt/is no longer on the bench (a traditionally ominous sign for San Jose's ability to defend)

Jiji
Ah shyit. And Tabe, I gave up on that when people questioned whether Toews was better than Crosby. Toews has breached the 70 point plateau once in his career.
Infinit
What a great turnaround by the Pens this year...they looked absolutely lost for the first part of the season.
BobbyWhioux
Ah well. Martin Jones kept this game and series a lot closer than it tended to look. It became more a matter of hoping for bounces than anything else.
Jiji
It'll be interesting to see how San Jose tries to get faster. Getting a mobile bottom pairing guy is probably step one.
elizium
Good for Sid. Hopefully that stops all the bullshit reasons people come up with to somehow prove he sucks. Kessel going around with the cup gave me such a stupid smile, he's a treasure.
pipGofern
This is surreal. I thought the Pens season was lost at Christmas. Never in a million years did I think this would be the year. After all those years with the Big Two only to fizzle out they finally assemble a team of cast offs and youngsters and it all comes together. So happy for Sid and Geno.
