Sept Wrestling Jibber Jabber Thread

Recommended Posts

Yeah, but that was like a million eras ago.  It's gotta be since people got all savvy to this stuff.

And so be it. I'm not changing or editing that post because some of the bullshit that's been posted on the previous couple pages is pretty fucking reprehensible. We went from discussing Foley's fascination with porn stars, to how you would feel if your daughter worked in the porn industry. That's pretty fucking far from "wrestling jibber jabber." I get Raven Mack's post and stand behind it, but I also don't really give a good goddamn if I get a timeout over what I said. This is also why we have moderators to moderate a discussion, and thus far things have steered pretty far into weird territory, far and beyond what should really be discussed.

They set themselves up to be asked that question by attacking anyone who dare speak out against the porn industry.  Accusing others of being hateful because they question a career path is not going to fly without elaborating on it..

Moving on...

Actually it was more not stitching a scarlet letter on a person because things they have done.  Nobody has defended the porn industry. This started with people attacking Foley for daring to say nice things about a porn star.

The JBL turn was built up on TV gradually at first. With him losing the SD Rumble and then abandoning Ron Simmons, Then after WM they fast forwarded it.

I'm not Vic, and I have no kids, which means any real answer to this question is bullshit, but, assuming she got into it by choice and not due to a complete lack of options, I honestly believe I'd be fine with it.

99% of the time that's why women get into the sex industry, though. It's desperate work.

Although I'm not sure the number is actually that high (I do believe there are women who choose it for other reasons, but I do not discount that there are many who did not) it is why I included the qualifier there.

Generally, though, does porn really have a happy ending (no pun intended) for the women involved? Most of the time the answer is no. Because it's a sleazy, dehumanizing industry and even if your daughter gets into it normal, she's not going to leave it that way.

Any good father who hears his daughter wants to do it should be doing his very best to talk her out of it.

I remember when everyone used to hold up Jenna Jameson as an example of how porn could be enpowering to women and how she was the big success story that proved the sex industry was just another career.

Fast forward a few years and she's now a drug-addled mess who's lost custody of her kids and gets arrested all the time.

There is a difference between talking your child out of it and disowning them. Or giving them a scarlet letter.

Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella are now engaged.

This is how they are going to feud Bryan and Cena when Cena gets back right?

Bryan put all this extra pressure on Cena to pop the question to the fake boobed one and he didn't want to and now he is resentful of Bryan

HHH will pair up Brie with Cena and it will drive Bryan out of his mind.

Jesus, please tell me the best this generation can do as their Elizabeth is not Brie Bella.

Brie Bella has all the charisma and presence of a broomstick.

She's beginning to look like one too.

He was just way too high profile a guy to do such a fast and total gimmick change like that.

It's more a case of D-Von sucking as a solo act, I think.

Bradshaw from the APA to JBL was overnight wasn't it?

I want to say it had like a one or two week build after Simmons got "fired".

What did The Undertaker say about Triple H on the documentary from Triple H's DVD? Thanks. Rare seeing The Undertaker talk out of character on WWE.

He was featured more than I thought he would be.  Besides the McMahons and DX Members, he talked the most.

-He talked about how he wasn't too fond of the idea of HHH and Steph dating at first.

-Told HHH that whatever he did wouldn't matter, because people would always link it him dating the Boss' daughter and to not pay attention to them.

The rest of it was pretty much he was professional and has good mind for business stuff.  I still have to finish it when I get home.  I have about 40 minutes left of it.  I rented it from Google Play for $3.99, if anyone else wants to check it out.  You get 48 hours to watch it before it expires.

Thank you.

Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella are now engaged.

Congratulations go out to them.

I saw one clip which showed Batista comparing Triple H to Michael Jordan. Made the whole thing look like a bit of an ego trip.

Interesting. Most talent there the past 20 years would've said Michaels. Making Triple H be Scottie Pippen, I'd say.

By the time WWE has finished rewriting history, Triple H will be highest-grossing World champion ever, the one single-handedly responsible for WWF defeating WCW in the the Monday Night Wars, as well as the guy who discovered the cure for polio.

During the M/H Era in 00, even though the heels "ruled", The Acolytes were monster faces that weren't really fucked with. Who will get that treatment this time?

What about technical wrestler Scott Steiner to 'White Thunder'/Big Poppa Pump, certainly an overnight total appearance/character change...

WWE just put up a bunch of debuts (Y2J, Tazz, Batista, Cena, etc.)

I could've sworn D-Von was using his awesome Eyes of Rightessnous theme song. They have got to recycle that for someone at some point.
The screencap preview of the "Eyes of Righteousness" make it look like D-Von is the dude who leaves those things in the restroom of Starbucks that look like $50 and $100 bills, only when you pick them up and unfold them, they're these religious tractlets that start off with, "Disappointed? Don't be, because you're far richer in the kingdom of Heaven than" blah blah still not $50-100 in my pocket blah.
I used to bus tables at a restaurant when I was in high school and I remember a table of 15 Mormons came in. They were polite but racked up a gigantic bill and ran me and the waitress around for like an hour getting drinks, nacho refills, etc. The whole time we were thinking, "well, at least the tip will be worth it." After they left, we were cleaning the table and we saw what looked like a folded piece of paper with two $100 bills in it, along with a credit card and on the note it said, "Here's a tip..." The waitress unfolded it and it was one of those tracts with fake bills and the tract said, "Here's a tip...how to get to heaven, read the Book of Mormon blah blah blah". The actual tip they left was like $10 on a $150 or so bill. I remember the waitress just started bawling in the middle of the restaurant (thankfully it was close to closing time) and the manager felt so bad he gave her $40 or whatever out of his own pocket and let her go home. I didn't get any extra money or get to go home but the bartender at least let me drink in the bar for an hour or so after I finished bussing tables. Cool story bro.
Hey, I appreciated it. It added to my ongoing "completely made up weird shit about wrestlers that amuses only me that I developed using DVDVRMB." So far, there's ...Colt Cabana is a murderer.Mick Foley uses a frozen deceased house pet as a port-a-johnny.And now ... D-Von Dudley is a Mormon.I need to write a book ...

This is the greatest month ever!

Nuh uh, July by a landslide. Or June. Whichever one had this thread rebooted 5 days in. Kinda-sorta over Davey Goddamn Richards. This mug has survived Breaking Bad, porn, and Dusty Rhodes sex face. No, wait, I stand corrected.

I was going to bring up Lex Luger - from the Narcissist to All-American Bus Ridin' Hero.  His appearance didn't change, but a massive character change.

I fucking hate Mick Foley.

I hate how he consistently needs to let everyone know how good a person he is, how he has such a complete lack of humility in telling EVERYONE what great deeds he does right down to the last dollar in detail, I hate how he tells the same stories over and over again and has no concept that they've been done to death.

That I met him in person and realised what a whiny scumbag he is too, just nailed it for me. Poor man's Michael Moore.

Would the transition from Val Venis to Sean Morely count?  One minute he's an over the top porn star character and the next he's supposed to be this super-serious character.

This was definitely a gradual thing, starting with him being a glory hog in his tag matches with Rick, and then showing a 'mutual respect' with Buff Bagwell over their physiques.

Johnny Nitro to John Morrison would be one if John Morrison had had the charisma to pull off the transition from the N in MNM to Jim Morrison, the wrestler.

Of course, I doubt anyone in wrestling has the charisma to pull off Jim Morrison, the wrestler.

Maybe it's a YMMV type of thing, but I've always found Foley to be an incredibly nice and down to Earth person for someone who has been blasted in the skull with hard objects more than most people have been. Case in point, when Foley came to town recently for a comedy show, a firefighter buddy of mine sent his publicist an email to see if he could have the time to come hang out at their fire station, which he gladly accepted. He ordered pizzas and shot the shit with the fire fighters at that station for a good long while. It's not like there is much else to do in South Bend when it isn't a home game weekend, so I'm sure Foley wasn't missing out on much, but he could have just as easily spent his time at the theater or in his hotel room.

Someone mentioned APA a page or so back and...did the WWE drop the ball with these guys? My impression of the APA was that they were maybe on a level that was even higher up than Austin as far as people you didn't want to fuck with and people that would undoubtedly whoop your ass. They should have been pushed to the moon as much as Austin was. I really thought Bradshaw would be in line for a great singles run when they first did the brand split and Bradshaw was featured in the main event on that first brand split Raw. I thought for sure he would have an Austin-lite run, but there never seemed to be much interest in pushing him in that way. Later on they figured things out with his JBL run, but even then, that felt more like a reward for a long standing company guy.
