I'm not Vic, and I have no kids, which means any real answer to this question is bullshit, but, assuming she got into it by choice and not due to a complete lack of options, I honestly believe I'd be fine with it.

 

Until you take your daughter out to a lovely father/daughter lunch, and some asshole approaches your table and tells her how much he loves watching her get fucked, and "How much would it cost to get to fuck her, too?". 

 

Would you also think your daughter was "asking for it"? Would you tell your daughter she brought it on herself or would you offer her moral support? This is an extreme situation and one in which I'd hope you would take your daughter's side regardless of if you supported her decision to enter the sex industry.

 

Anyway, I'm getting a strong sense that very few people in this thread if any actually know a sex worker or somebody involved in advocacy for sex workers' rights. There is a lot of unfortunate ignorance being tossed around in here.

I could've sworn D-Von was using his awesome Eyes of Rightessnous theme song. They have got to recycle that for someone at some point.

 

 

I remember back in the Smackdown 5 video game, he had the weirdest ring walk. He would hold his hand over his heart with a sad look and slowly walk to the ring. It was really amusing when you could switch his attire to his Team 3D one he would do the same walk.

 

There was potential for Rev. D-Von. Hell, there's potential period for a crazy Bapstist Reverend in wrestling.

He was just way too high profile a guy to do such a fast and total gimmick change like that.

 

Are there other guys in the last ten years who were as prominent as him who did such a total repackaging almost overnight?  Like not just something like Rikishi or Tensai going from angry fat guy to dancing fat guy, but someone becoming, like, a totally different guy?

 

Someone bigger than like Brodus Clay.

I think they thought it had been part of the gimmick in a small way, With the "Testify" stuff. I think him and Bubba were going to have trouble being split up like that. Because nobody wanted the Dudleys or Acolytes to break up. You're looking at your watch, waiting for them to reunite.

And so be it. I'm not changing or editing that post because some of the bullshit that's been posted on the previous couple pages is pretty fucking reprehensible. We went from discussing Foley's fascination with porn stars, to how you would feel if your daughter worked in the porn industry. That's pretty fucking far from "wrestling jibber jabber." I get Raven Mack's post and stand behind it, but I also don't really give a good goddamn if I get a timeout over what I said. This is also why we have moderators to moderate a discussion, and thus far things have steered pretty far into weird territory, far and beyond what should really be discussed.

I'd say that's pretty much the best example. Another one I was thinking of but which may not fit the strictest definition is Austin going from super face Stone Cold to ultra whiny Austin. That was almost a 180 in character for him. Also, Angle going from cowardly comedy heel pre-No Way Out 2000 to super ass kicking "tap out or I will break your fucking ankle" Angle at No Way Out is another one.

Now if Angle had suddenly come out as like a ship captain or a lumberjack or something that would be closer to DVon Dudley suddenly being a Pentacostal preacher in a Catholic priest outfit.

 

There are the sort of brainwashing versions, like where The Godfather is suddenly turned into a member of RTC, but I think everyone knows that won't "stick."  That it's just a phase and he's still really the same guy deep down.

They set themselves up to be asked that question by attacking anyone who dare speak out against the porn industry.  Accusing others of being hateful because they question a career path is not going to fly without elaborating on it..

Actually it was more not stitching a scarlet letter on a person because things they have done.  Nobody has defended the porn industry. This started with people attacking Foley for daring to say nice things about a porn star.

99% of the time that's why women get into the sex industry, though. It's desperate work.

 

 

Although I'm not sure the number is actually that high (I do believe there are women who choose it for other reasons, but I do not discount that there are many who did not) it is why I included the qualifier there.

 

 

Generally, though, does porn really have a happy ending (no pun intended) for the women involved? Most of the time the answer is no. Because it's a sleazy, dehumanizing industry and even if your daughter gets into it normal, she's not going to leave it that way.

 

Any good father who hears his daughter wants to do it should be doing his very best to talk her out of it.

 

I remember when everyone used to hold up Jenna Jameson as an example of how porn could be enpowering to women and how she was the big success story that proved the sex industry was just another career.

 

Fast forward a few years and she's now a drug-addled mess who's lost custody of her kids and gets arrested all the time.
