rainmakerrtv Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Damn it! I'd heard he had not been in great health. I was a prog rock kid, I know it was never cool but I loved that stuff and enjoyed listening to his playing. RIP. 2
Pete Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Ugh... this hits hard as I'm a huge ELP fan who could care less how quote-unquote uncool they were. Brain Salad Surgery is still one of my favorite albums ever. Saw them in Peoria back in 1993 and they all still had the chops in spades, especially in a fairly small (2,000) theater where they were lurking right on top of you. RIP Keith. 2
zev Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I am now remembering times I found myself at the nearest Kmart trying to bash out part of Karn Evil 9, and getting my own keyboard the following Christmas. I am now wondering what became of my college friend who had an ELP tattoo and had a band that allowed him to explore Moog goodness every weekend. That band was, and is, cool.
ChrisM Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Read on Twitter that it may have been suicide. He was a madman on the keyboards.
Pete Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Sadly, I could see it... he's had some form of nerve damage to his hands that made it progressively (no pun intended) harder and harder for him to play. 1
Steelcanvas Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MS_IbDxKYg RIP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQQdYokbp4E 2
JLSigman Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 One of the earliest things Dad and I had in common was a love of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. Damnit.
Travis Sheldon Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MS_IbDxKYg RIP Listened to this very track earlier today after I heard the news. Powerful stuff. R.I.P. Mr Emerson 1
Curt McGirt Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Fuck. In my stoner youth I bought every damn ELP record on vinyl. Guess I'm gonna be revisiting all of them tonight and tomorrow. 3
Pete Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Fark headline: "Emerson, Smith and Wesson" Yes, it's horrible. Yes, I laughed. Yes, I am horrible too.
Curt McGirt Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 A friend of mine read what his wife had commented on the UK Daily News about it and said it was the saddest thing ever, and also the fishiest. If there's any way his partner was responsible it would be some Dateline NBC shit, but I don't want to believe that at all. Suicide is at least something I can accept.
