Apparently, Joe Schilling was there and Owen Roddy, Lobov, and Ido Portal were there for Team McGregor/SBG. Is it too late to throw a WarGames match between the two sides on 197? Or do they save it for 200?

Dana going three technique lineman on Nate is the best.

Jon Anik vs. Nate Diaz is going to have a tough time following up on Mayweather vs. Merchant.

I was worried that Nate and his crew were going to confuse Sholler for Anik when Sholler was holding them back.

Dana looks like he's on the Lorenzo Workout Plan these days.

These days? Do you mean like the last seven years? Matter of fact, I think Lorenzo got buff AFTER Dana. I only remember Lorenzo in suits and then he started showing up like some girl's dad going through a midlife crisis. All he needed was the jeans with the dragons down the side, and the image would have been completed.

So I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Nate will not only win this fight but win it convincingly. I think that people are getting too far ahead of themselves with all the Lawler talk. Connor is the featherweight champion. He beat Mendes on not the greatest circumstances for Mendes and he caught Aldo with a punch. I'm not completely sold that he'd beat Dos Anjos and I'm not even sold that he'd beat Aldo in a rematch. I think him going up to 170 is a lot to ask and still expect success. I don't have a problem with throwing the Mendes fight out of consideration when looking at how good Conor is because I don't think Mendes was in the right shape for that fight. So now you're at the question of is Conor better than Aldo or did he just catch him with a punch? I don't know the answer to that.

Of course if it goes the other way I'm just going to say I was drunk when I posted this.

Maybe I'm not paying close enough attention but usually Dana looks like a chubby guy who lifts heavy and never does cardio. There he looks jacked. Maybe it's the shirt.

It sounds like Meltzer wants to pick Nate, but he has the same problem as you have looking at the Mendes fight. Nate is going to come into the fight in shape, but what type of shape? He looked impressive in the fight with Michael Johnson, but let's not forget the fights with Thomson, Bendo, and RDA. I don't think those fights are necessarily indicative of his talent level (I mean being a top lightweight means a lot more than several other divisions), but they say a lot about what the low end of his abilities are. When he is on, he is on. When everything isn't right, the wheels completely fall off. I'm talking one of the rear tires is in a tree and the other is in the river. Our evidence of Conor on the low end is McGregor fighting with a torn ACL against a hotshot prospect and then getting GnPed by Mendes, another top fighter. In both situations, he persevered.

I think it will be a competitive fight as is, but I think based on the above that Conor is the safer pick. I think one of the things that might give you pause is that John Kavanagh really isn't some sort of master game planner. Forget the problems that Tate might have in her corner because Follis is actually tested. Kavanagh might be to Conor what Alton Merkerson was to Roy Jones Jr. in his prime. To be frank, he is only there because you need a chief second and someone to talk to in between rounds. I credit Kavanagh for getting Conor this far. Let's be honest though. Conor is the special talent here. With his other fighters, Kavanagh really hasn't captured hearts and minds. He did a miserable job with Gunnar in the Story fight, and that can't be forgotten. What happens when Conor actually needs help from Kavanagh? Can Kavanagh actually provide that help?

I believe it was the Lookin for a Fight thing where they were on the beach. Dana took his shirt off and looked like the fighter while Serra looked like Lamotta during the present day scenes of Raging Bull.

Heck, I'm just going to pick Nate.  For really the first time, McGregor is not going to be bigger or longer than his opponent.  He's moving up two weight classes.  Nate has more experience than McGregor at both featherweight and welterweight.  Nate also has crazy boxing, and McGregor's defense is always loose.

The thing about McGregor going up to 170 is, he's not going up to 170 to fight a welterweight. He's fighting a lightweight (a big lightweight admittedly). Diaz left the 170lb division five years ago, because he was too small to fight the top guys there. And though Diaz has three inches in height, his reach advantage is only one inch, which may well be negated by McGregor's superior movement and distance control. And Diaz is a guy who breaks mentally when things don't go his way, taking a fight on short notice against a guy who specialises in breaking people mentally.

So I think McGregor's going to win, is what I'm saying.

I once watched Nate Diaz lose an extremely close fight because he inadvertently judo tossed Clay Guida on top of him. This is something that happened.

Meh, that fight was seven years ago now.  After that, he dominated both Donald Cerrone and Jim Miller when both men were in their prime.

I'm not saying that's the be all, end all of Nate Diaz. I'm saying that's something on his record in terms of dealing with nip and tuck fights.

Also, it was hilarious.

Heeeeyyy, so I've got a Krazy Horse story I've never told on the internet before. I was a shy 22 year old, grew up in waaaay Northern Manitoba ( Thompson, to be exact), had been working full-time since high school while completing an associate's degree and saving some money up. That's when I just kind of said f this, I want to get out of here and see some of the world before signing up for what would have probably been a life-time job (MB Hydro). I had an aunt in SEA at the time and a friend living in South Korea so figured I'd kind of start there and see what happened. I was able to link a flight through Tokyo, cost a bunch but figured this was as close as I was going to get to Japan and couldn't pass up on the chance to see a Pride show. This would be the NYE 2005 show. I'd never been out of Canada before aside from some family trips and was a total fish out of water. Stayed in something like a $10 a night hostel that I'd booked online but couldn't book for the actual NYE night and didn't really have a backup plan. My Canadian debit card card didn't work in 99%of the bank machines there and no way was I going to use my parents' visa card. Anyway, I've digressed enough and none of this is vital to the story. Just setting the scene.

I get to the arena really early on NYE and am just kind of hanging around. They had the belts on display and a couple of merchandise stands but mainly I was just wasting time. Some guy who looks vaguely familiar comes up and talks to me and turns out it's James Lee. He's there to corner Krazy Horse apparently because he's the only one the KOTC owner trusted enough to control him. Me and some friends had taken a road trip a few months earlier to check out a KOTC show when they had first started running Canada. Mentioned that to him and he just said cool, if you want to get some drinks after the show come and meet us at such and such hotel. He thought that I must be rich to be there and I shrugged it off with a "no man" but that might have been why I got that invite in the first place... Don't think he thought I'd actually show up but hell, I had nowhere else to be at the time. I was planning to crash at the same hostel and just sneak in late at night or not sleep at all so I had time to kill.

Saw a bunch of fighters at the hotel. Arona and Sperry were obviously still pissed off about the Wanderlei fight but that didn't stop me from asking them for a photo. My digital camera was messed up though and every time you tried to take a photo it would just snap shut and eventually they just kind of tossed it back to me and left. Still appreciated that they tried cause they were fuming the whole time. Ran into Arona in Bangkok like a week later while he was shopping in a market but didn't have my camera on me so didn't bother him that time. My camera was probably still doing the same thing anyway so maybe for the best...

First thing I saw Krazy Horse do was check Fight Finder to see that extra W on the record. That gave me a chuckle but really, who can blame him? True to his word,Lee took me out with Krazy Horse to a bunch of bars in Roppongi and got comped to all of them. Just to re-iterate, I'm this super nerdy/shy 22 year old and obviously stuck out like a sore thumb. James Lee was super nice to me the whole time though, even after I told him I had like the equivalent of $20 to my name at the time and nowhere to get more cash. Krazy Horse was alright - he was amped up because of the Wanderlei incident and that's all he talked about, knocking Silva out before so-and-so sucker-choked him. Even at the time I wasn't feeling that story and I think it was months before I finally saw it pop up on the internet. The only other thing that stuck out was Krazy Horse saying that Pride told him to take it easy on the actor-guy he was fighting and make the fight "fun". He was pissed about that yellow card too. Anyway, we parted ways after I'd tagged along with them probably wayyyy too long, both too classy to actually give me the boot and were nice the entire time (particularly Lee).

The point of the story? 22 year old me was a bit of a tool and James Lee's a great guy in my book. Sorry for derailing the thread....

Edit : James Lee fought and won on that KOTC Canads show. That was the reason he gave for inviting me out. Forgot to include that in my rambling story.
