Clearly they were surprised by the backlash and in the last two films he is severely toned down when he does show up, but it's too little too late by then. There was a good movie to be had with Law Abiding Citizen, about how victims get jobbed out in the name of career-making gain and political favor. I bought Gerard Butler in his role, but Foxx was awful. Honestly, I found Butler's character kinda terrible and resented that he was meant to be sympathetic. "I've suffered a tragic loss! So now I'll murder a bunch of innocent people who had nothing to do with it! And isn't this morally ambiguous and don't you perhaps feel like siding with me?!" Um, no, dude.
