Vincey Greene Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 (excuse the Kobe highlights, apparently Hov has been pretty aggressive in getting his music pulled off Youtube, couldn't find a better one.)
SolidGoldBomb Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 5 hours ago, Ramsey said: Kick ass record and this opens it. I just came in here to post a Black Sabbath intro song actually, Black Sabbath has so many great albums and opening tracks I love the opening note on this song, aka the Devil's Note And there's this opening song Classic! 1
Ramsey Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I'm a Dio guy. Ozzy bores the shit out of me. Different strokes and all that... 1
Ramsey Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 However, Tony Iommi is the hand of doom and I'm always all in for Iommi!
Curt McGirt Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I can't think of an Ozzy or Dio era album that doesn't start with a corker. Aside from the ones listed we have "Wheels of Confusion", "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" (!!!), "Hole in the Sky", "Back Street Kids" (sorry, that song rules), and "Never Say Die" (okay, I could concede there but it's still good). And Mob Rules starts with "Turn Up the Night", Dehumanizer with "Computer God". I'll let someone else go back to Heaven and Hell and all the other ones. "Disturbing the Priest" is good too...
Curt McGirt Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I cannot -- CANNOT -- believe we remembered Hell Awaits and forgot about Angel of Death EDIT: First off all we should all feel deep shame for missing that, and posting fucking Anthrax and Megadeth songs (myself included). Second of all, "Raining Blood" begs for an ALBUM-CLOSING SONG BATTLE thread! 1
Pete Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Pharcyde might be a bit of a cheat since there's a quickie instrumental track leading into it.
Curt McGirt Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Goddammit AxB, picking something I should have posted on the first page... Now I will cheat because this may be a 12" EP/MLP but fuck it
Lamp, broken circa 1988 Posted April 22, 2016 Author Posted April 22, 2016 I was suddenly reminded of this today by looking up freestyles from a few years back, and I remembered how awesome I feel about this song. Most rap albums- hell, most albums- start with a long pause and a bunch of not much at all, building up "the moment" or whatever. Fuck that. The Underachievers had so much they had to say that they literally don't have a moment to waste. I wish I loved the rest of the tape as much as I love the gall of just grabbing onto that first impression and going "HERE IT ALL IS"
JLSigman Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 This seems appropriate. And yes, one of the best first songs on any album. 2
J.T. Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Broke out my DJ Shadow playlist for the hinter hours survival on graveyard shift. Woke up the entire exercise control center with this banger. 1
Lamp, broken circa 1988 Posted April 19, 2017 Author Posted April 19, 2017 it's a real drag that the rest of this album is not a quarter as interesting as it's opener, because Holy Shit.
