FEBRUARY 2016 WRESTLING DISCUSSION

RIPPA

I don't remember, but were there more injuries happening during the brand split days? I mean, they would be getting more time on television and on house shows, but wouldn't that make it more likely that they would get injured?

Clearly I am the only one who watches the Game Night things on the WWE Youtube channel.

I am also sadly way too excited that in two weeks

Social Outcasts and Charlotte take on New Day, Tyler Breeze and Sasha Banks in Dodgeball

I'm amazed because Charlotte looks somewhat pretty in that photo. WWE makeup does her no favors. On TV, she looks like something out of GILF porn.

I read that as GLF porn ... and the world went darker. :(

God Bless New Day at least trying to advance this angle

I feel like their act is going to have a short shelf-life as babyfaces.  They're either going to drop the stuff that got them over to begin with or descend into self-parody.  Either way, not looking forward to it.

I'm on the fence. It may give guys like Cesaro a decent chance to move up the card. I just don't want two world championships. It's going to happen, otherwise there's no point in Shane asking specifically for Raw and not the entire promotion. Plus, he doesn't even have to win, just show up and fall off the cell.

What if they did a brand split but didn't do it in the same way...what if Raw became like IC + Diva's and Smackdown US + Tag Team?

They did that initially in 2002 (minus the US belt), but the writers were determined to split the World belt up.

I remember reading they were trying to split the Unified belt two days after Vengeance 2001.

I thought the World belt and Diva belt jumped back and forth?

It did initially but then they ran a storyline where Brock (the current champ) signed an exclusive deal with one of the GMs (I wanna say it was Bischoff) to only appear on their show. The other GM (Stephanie as a face IIRC) brought back the big gold belt and created a seperate title.

You have it backwards. Brock signed with Stephanie so Eric Bischoff (as a heel) awarded the World Heavyweight Championship to Triple H.

The thought of a porn flick where, whenever it shows the dude he's got a stopwatch ... and he's like, *pump*pump* *checks stopwatch* *pump*pump* *checks stopwatch* ... "oh shit" laughs over here.

The anti-Roman crowd from the other night got me thinking about the crowds in general at WWE events and all of the smark stuff, punk chants etc, and why that happens and maybe where this is going. Here is the thing to me: The WWE has whittled its audience down to pretty much hard cores and kids. When you look at the network and it's subscribers, I feel like it is mostly dedicated viewers who will always watch wrestling pretty much no matter what. And that is a blessing and a curse because most of the fervent wrestling fans are tired of the current shit and feel like they are getting it shoved up their ass on a regular basis even though they still watch. Go back to the #cancelWWE or whatever that was, everyone knew that was never going to last and you see it often, the "let's see you stop watching harhar" group. And they are right.

So where am I going with this. These people are not going to stop going to shows, and when they do, they are going to voice their displeasure at the current product, particularly if it is not what they want to see. The thing is, it is their only real outlet. Vince ain't reading Twitter or this here message board to get his feedback.

I am not even saying I agree with the sentiment, but how else do you voice your displeasure? Everyone here knows not watching is probably not going to happen. It's almost literally the only way.

I know what I did. I mixed it up with the "Who will Scott Steiner sign with" angle

They both went on to get penises tattooed on their chests, it's an easy mistake.

What if the brand split means SD becomes NXT?

Then on one hand, I can ditch the Network, but on the other hand, NXT becomes way worse.

But at the same time, the fact that NXT is still supposed to be developmental means there needs to be a rash of promotions soon for NXT (like moving the current "national" tour to the Smackdown roster would likely entail) just to freshen up NXT and make some forward momentum for the show. If anything, NXT is putting too much of a ceiling onto the show by the fact that the "no, no, no, it's a super-indy because we say it is!" movement it's had has just changed "develop new talent" into "just throw another indy darling on the show and let their shininess run NXT for one or two tapings".

WWE would do well with relaunching FCW and letting that be the AA brand. NXT could be the place for guys who will never make the main roster but are worthy of a spot and guys who are on the cusp of making it but need a little more seasoning.

NXT remains on the Network and FCW is on local Florida TV so the true developmental talent can learn without being exposed to a national audience.
