Swift Posted January 31, 2016 Share Posted January 31, 2016 Wogan was someone who I disliked as a child. I found him a bit smarmy too be honest. As I got older I appreciated him a bit more, specifically his pisstake attitude to the Eurovision. Growing up watching Irish coverage of the show, I always thought it was supposed to be taken seriously, because the Irish took it seriously. Actually, I think the reason we never watched the British coverage is because Wogan referred to the British as "we" (obviously. He was broadcasting in Britain to a British audience, but it annoyed my parents. They weren't particularly nationalist, but I think they believed he was somewhat of a traitor or something silly like that) Still, I do have memories of watching his chat show, so they didn't hold that much of a grudge against him.
