Kenny's schitck at the 3rd Gilbert Memorial had heat.... mainly from me because I was trying to catch a 12:39am train and Kenny's bullshit wasting time made me miss it.

From my road report of the show:

Match #2 :
Patch v. Surfer Ray Oddessy :  Patch wears a patch and spits his gum out at me after I start yelling "ARRR ARRR" like a pirate at him.  Kenny Bolin comes out to the ring and starts to do a speech drawing heat about how IWA is being ripped off by ECW.  He plugs what station he appears on down in KY... REPEATEDLY.  So much so that I offer Mike the Ref $20 bucks to nail Kenny with his tennis racket at one point.  He also says
he's a good friend of Jim Cornette. Kenny says he thinks Patch can be a big star and says he'll manage him.  In  the end, it backfires as Kenny smacks Ray with his  cheesy tennis racket and Ray falls on top of Patch to  score the win.  Post match Kenny says he was wrong about Patch and he'll never get to appear on Fox 41 or Eight  58.  Patch chases him away.

*snip*

Angle :
There was supposed to be a Sunny v. Marlena armwrestling match, however Sunny cancelled the event.  Kevin Christian was supposed to be the referee for the match and is greeted by "Jerry's Kid" chants.  I also try to do my best Brian Christopher laugh.  Since Sunny no showed, they announce Marlena as the winner.  KennyBolin comes out again and does his "I'm a big star" schitck all over again and says that since he was going to give the winner a kiss and she won anyway, he was going to give her her prize.  Kenny puckers up and closes his eyes and gets a not so big suprise.  A loud slap the the face.

After this, James E. Cornette comes out and tell Kenny to shut up (Should have done this 10 minutes earlier Jim, I might have been able to catch my train) he's  embarrassing himself as well as Jim.  After a bit of
an arguement, Jimmy turns his back and gets nailed with Kenny's racket.

*snip*

Match #8 : NWA U.S. Tag Team Title match : The Misfits  (Harley Lewis & Derek Domino) w/ Kenny Bolin, Lupus &  Mary Kate the blow up doll v.  The Extremists (Ace Darling & Devon Storm) w/ Jim Cornette :  This was  a good match.  It's funny to actually see what's going on.  Jim Cornette is working with the Rock 'n Roll Express in the WWF as a heel and they're doing all the old Midnight Express heel spots and in the NWA he's a face working with Ace and Devon where they're doing all the old Rock 'n Roll Express face stuff.  Devon plays Ricky Morton, getting beat up early and making the Rock 'n Roll Express rolling hot tag to Ace Darling.  Mark Curtis takes a bump out to the floor as James E. takes out Kenny, but not before Derek gets Kenny's racket and goes to hit Ace (I think), but Mark grabs the racket and Ace rolls him up for the win.  New Champs.  This was the other selection for the best match of the night.  Would have liked to seen a bit more of Ace, who of the two I think is the better all around worker.  If the WWF wants to revive tag wrestling, they should invest some time in Ace and  Devon.  With a little more work, they could be a good team.  They're already better than the Godwinns.

*snip*

All and all, a good show, but there was that one thing in the middle which could have and should have been avoided.  Kenny's schitck worked, but really should have been cut down so I could have caught my 12:39
train.

So was Verne's sumo idea in 1990/1991? That makes sense: Konishiki, Akebono and Musashimaru are all active at this point. Musashimaru and Takamiyama (the first sumo wrestler from Hawaii) were high school football players. Yokozuna debuts for the WWF in 1992.
