2016 Non-Event General MMA Talk Thread

How do we keep losing these fights so close to the event? And once again from Kings MMA.

To be fair, it was a checked kick. Those can go either way.

In addition, this time last year no one had a problem with Kings MMA. I even said repeatedly that Kings MMA is a very rugged gym, especially in today's climate. However, all their fighters were making it to their fights and looking awesome. They were winning world titles when other gyms are just trying to find a halfway decent head coach. Now that people aren't doing that, now we have a problem.

If Nate beats Eddie, then you can do that fight if Pettis beats Barboza. Then whoever wins that challenges for the belt. Right now, you got the Ferguson/Khabib winner with dibs on whoever the LW champion is two weeks from now. That or an interim LW title fight.

Plus, you got options in case someone has to pull out. You can plug in Diaz or Alvarez (or a couple other people) and still have a five star lightweight matchup.

This is why we shouldn't shit on quality matchups because it's not a specific quality matchup.

If it's Nate vs. Conor McGregor at 196, you don't even need bring them to the media day. Just let Holly and Miesha do that. They can sell that fight by doing Vines.

Hell, you can probably say the same thing for Cerrone.

Nate's guys are saying no go, he can't make 155 on two weeks notice. Might be posturing for money, hard to tell.

The fight is going to do business on PPV. Why would he need more money? He has turned down fights before, but this doesn't seem like a fight he would turn down.

If you went all in with that post fight interview in Orlando, this certainly ain't the time to dial it back. Not with the biggest fight of your career on the line.

Because Nate Diaz doesn't have PPV points?  Unless you know something differently?

The best option is to postpone McGregor/Dos Anjos.  Make Holm/Tate the new main event.  That simple.

So you're willing to fight Michael Johnson for 20 & 20 reported with no guarantee of any big matchups, but not Conor McGregor for more than that and the access to several big matchups down the line win or lose and more money? It makes no sense.

But yeah, Conor is staying on the PPV. He's already in Los Angeles.

Nate Diaz's buddy LazyieSavage is saying UFC hasn't offered Diaz enough to fight at 155, and he's not willing to fight Conor lower than 165 pounds on two weeks notice.  UFC doesn't want McGregor to fight at 165 for this fight.  That's what LazyieSavage is saying.

Have you read Diaz's contract, how do you know he'd even get more than 20/20 to fight McGregor or get more on the back end?  Would UFC just tear up his current contract and give him a brand new one just to fight McGregor so quickly?

Dude, the salary goes up fight to fight. He isn't making 20 and 20 every fight. So if it's 22 and 22 for McGregor, that's still 4,000 more than 40,000 if he wins. I am not saying they're giving anymore more than what's on his contract. I am saying this is opportunity for a breakthrough fight.

Anyway, they're weren't going to give him a new contract anyway. He's not a star. They have options. I am saying it's retarded to do the grandstand in order to challenge McGregor, and get cold feet as soon it comes your way. They weren't going to give you more money to fucking begin with. Injury to RDA or otherwise.

The UFC is not about to negotiate with you over trivial shit.

If he has the opportunity to take the fight he should take the fight. It's going to do more for his career than not fighting McGregor. But nothing wrong with trying to squeeze extra dollars if that's what he's doing.

If I were McGregor I would absolutely not be interested in doing anything short of a title fight with RDA.

If Mardones or whoever actually reps him (is it still Iridium?) couldn't get him more than what he's making now, then I don't expect them to do better in negotiating a fight where they have very little leverage as is.

Conor McGregor himself is enough of selling point. We ain't even calculated anything resulted in the curiosity factor surrounding Holly Holm.

It would be different if this was your average FS1 or Fight Pass card where Nate for the most part would be at worst a lateral move in terms of overall value. He is an entertaining person to watch to say the least. However, in terms of drawing power, there is nothing there that would stop the UFC from hitting the "Bye, Felicia". They've done that to people with more stature in the sport. So if there is any movement in terms of money for Nate, that's on some weird benevolence shit that we've rarely seen out of the UFC.

I'm listening to the Observer Breaking News Audio update right now, and it seems like that there may be something Nate's contract as far how much he gets paid. Unless Meltzer misspoke, Meltzer did say it's a huge payday for Nate. If you're a subscriber, he talks about it at the 7 minute mark in reference to why Cerrone. Nate, and others would take the fight.

If that's the case, then there is absolutely no reason for him to turn the fight down.

Well, if Diaz thinks he has no chance of winning, or even of looking impressive in losing, that's a valid reason to turn the fight down.

So apparently, I was the only one who watched the December Fox show. This is good to know because then it won't make these responses seem extremely preposterous.

The upside far outweighs the downside of losing. Crazy to turn that fight down. You win that fight and it's a career changer. You lose and you really haven't lost anything. Which is why if I was McGregor I'd absolutely have no interest in it. He takes a gigantic hit if he loses but gains little if he wins. It's not a huge deal if he loses to the champ.

Looks like they are announcing the fight on ESPN. Kavanagh posted the smiley face emoji so it looks it's a go. Helwani tweeted that it's looking like it's still in favor of Nate Diaz. We shall see.
