Steve Ballmer retiring from Microsoft

Ballmer was always a horrible choice to run Microsoft, a classic case of a marketing guy running a creative company.  He never had the vision that Bill Gates did to see where the technology was headed and to guide Microsoft into that future. (Apple is having the same problems now that Steve Jobs is dead.)

 

He was an absolute brilliant marketing director in the 1980s.  He was the real driving force behind the success of Windows 3.0, traveling the country and evangelizing to a weary sales force who had to suffer through the failures of the first two Windows versions.

After Ballmer leaves, I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft unloads/discontinues the Xbox division and/or Windows phones. Whoever they get next may not fully understand video games and just sees the dollar signs from Xbox Live service.

Windows phone? More than likely. Xbox? Not a chance in hell. Microsoft wishes Windows phone and Surface had even a fraction of the marketshare that Xbox has.
