FALLOUT 4

RIPPA

Managed to do the Hole in the Wall quest without contracting mole rat disease. Had to use a bunch of Jet and the cryolater to do it. I saved every time I cleared an area which came in handy as I did get bitten twice. I just reverted back to the previous save and re-did it.

I can relate to that. I mostly just mentioned it so I could springboard into complaining about how weak Bethesda made the disease. If it had any teeth to it, the decision of whether to save Austin might actually be an interesting one.

I've been listening to a lot of Diamond City radio during my playthrough and man, I don't wanna do the quest to get Travis his confidence back. Nervous Travis is the best. "Ummmm, I have a rumor about a Vault. It's not news but rumors are kind of like news but without the commitment."

And here I thought my Wednesday was ruined when I cued up Smackdown and Cass was put into the Joe/Byan match.

Bethesda to the rescue!

Edit: Ok so doing a bit of reading - it seems that this may end up being an online game, which both scares and intrigues me that this could end up being Fallout: Destiny ... because there would be equal chances of me hating it and giving up in 20 hours, or playing it for 2 years.  No middle ground.

My biggest concern is honestly that Bethesda has a real habit of leaning on the community patch to fix things because their single player games are so complicated that debugging them is almost impossible, and a 3rd party patch is not feasible in a multiplayer online game. Until we have some actual gameplay to judge just how complex a game they're looking to make it's hard to say, but I think saying I have serious concerns is fair.

Obviously I hope the game is fantastic. This is pretty much the first time a genuine AAA studio has taken a run at a base building/survival game that I can think of offhand.

Cautious optimism is the sensible approach. If it ends up with gangs of human players replacing CPU fodder, that would be awesome. Huge vault tech vs. raider battles would be the stuff of video game heaven.

The 4x the size of FO4 talk makes me think the online element is even more likely to be true. I like that they showed none of the usual Fallout creatures. I hope the July release date rumor turns out to be true.

So Todd Howard has done at least two interviews so far on 76.

Currently players can be seen on each others maps

no vehicles

no human npcs

mods will come later for private worlds

base camps you set up disappear whenever you leave the server and return when you do. They can't be destroyed permanently or anything so I assume we repair stuff like n FO4.

VATS is real time, no longer freezing or slowing the game.

Starfield is in full production. Speaking of which Mike Laidlaw explained the whys of 76 existing and made a decent point of us basically getting the choice of 76 or nothing with most of the focus/resources being on Starfield right now.

Me too - I mean ... there was never a chance I wasn't going to play 76 no matter what it ended up being, but I've gone from highly skeptical to super optimistic after watching that.

The full History of Bethesda documentary that same channel has on Youtube is fascinating as well.

So I downloaded a Weapon mod to try by a guy named Skillzerk. The weapons were all pretty good quality that I had found so far, so I read a little more about the mod. Part of the mod is he added a vendor with the same name as him, so I track down the vendor look at his inventory and he's selling something that says "Abel's note" for like 5 million caps. I use the cheat terminal and buy it, curious what it was. It was this dude's suicide note. He legit killed himself on July 8th or 9th (sometime around then) and put a suicide note in his mod.

That is pretty fucked up.

Some mods I would highly reccomend:

Any weapons by DOOMBASED. Dude makes quality weapons and they're not ludicrously overpowered like a lot of guys tend to do when making weapons (ITZ A MINIGUN THAT SHOOTS NUKES!!). He has an all-in-one mod that has all his stuff. https://bethesda.net/en/mods/fallout4/mod-detail/2242405

SKK Fast Start. Lets you skip all of the pre-war Sanctuary stuff as well as all the initial stuff inside Vault 111. You start on the elevator coming out of 111 for the first time The same guy also makes a mod for starting a new game that lets you bypass all the early game storyline stuff (going to Diamond City, talking to Piper, rescuing Nick, searching Kellog's house, making your way to Fort Hagen). https://bethesda.net/en/mods/fallout4/mod-detail/4050534

Behemoth relay grenade. Craft a grenade that will summon a friendly (to you) Super Mutant Behemoth to fight by your side. It's a lot of fun to toss a couple into a crowded area and watch them clean house. https://bethesda.net/en/mods/fallout4/mod-detail/3307617

Everyone's Best Friend. Lets you have a companion AND Dogmeat following you (which apparently was the original plan for the game). https://bethesda.net/en/mods/fallout4/mod-detail/923154

America Rising: A Tale of the Enclave. Voice acting isn't the best but for a fan made quest it's pretty good. Decent length too. Lasts a couple hours. https://bethesda.net/en/mods/fallout4/mod-detail/4016479

Crude Blowback. It's a weapon that was apparently considered to be used as the concept art is in the official FO4 art book. Someone made it a reality. Good early game weapon, but becomes irrelevant after about level 20 or so. https://bethesda.net/en/mods/fallout4/mod-detail/2335509

Place Anywhere. Just what it says. When you're building a settlement this lets you place anything anywhere. https://bethesda.net/en/mods/fallout4/mod-detail/2650358

Macho Claws. It makes all the deathclaws look and sound like Macho Man Randy Savage. https://bethesda.net/en/mods/fallout4/mod-detail/911882

Armor Size Conversion. Got a set of light armor that you wish you could make sturdier? With this you can modify size of your armor. https://bethesda.net/en/mods/fallout4/mod-detail/976607
