Hooking up Maggie and Alex seems really forced if they're doing it just for the sake of doing it.

Meanwhile, over on Flash, everyone's still a fucking idiot and just set up the Crossover.  I mean, I know it's setting up the event, but it really seems that over half of Flash's plot lines involve Barry and/or the team making some really assanine decisions.

I feel like they're gonna be hooking up Maggie with Alex so that's fine enough. I do question taking one of the more prominent queer women in comics and introing her as basically unrecognizable barring being a queer cop but it's a screwed either way scenario because an original character arguably lacks the name value.

Either way, I liked what we got so it's not the biggest deal either way to me.

I don't actually dislike her which is why I'm unsure how I feel about it as the whole. I probably just wish Maggie was Maggie or a completely new character though I  can somewhat understand why they didn't go either way. I don't dislike the idea of Maggie & Alex hooking up, but I do wish they weren't so obvious about it. It feels likes its going to be a bit forced.

On the subject of Maggie/Alex being forced: The actresses seemed to have good chemistry, they said a main cast member would come out as queer this season, and in a super soapy setting Alex hasn't shown any signs of a love life in over a season. There's preliminary signs but who knows? That said, I don't really think it could be more forced than basically any Arrowverse romance to date so hey.

For starters, can we please not use the word "queer"?  Given the negative connotations it's not a word I'm particularly fond of.

Second, the Berlanti shows are not afraid to have gay/lesbian storylines which was a bit surprising at first.  I first noticed it with Sara from Legends of Tomorrow.  It was over-the-top where she unashamedly hooks up with women from the past.  But that's how she is, and it's not that different from a male who would have no shame doing a similar thing.  Now with Supergirl Monday it's much more of a normal instance where it's a casual "She's my ex" line.  If it feels natural then there's no need to treat this as a bigger deal than it is.  I didn't see Arrow so can't say if it felt forced or not.  But it is cool to see them doing this.

I like the idea of what they're trying to do on ARROW this season (get back to basics with street level crime and Ollie being an unabashed bastard, reshuffling the supporting cast which was getting stale), but boy, have they bungled the execution.  We're 4 episodes in, and I have zero care for any of the new sidekicks or Church as the villain.  I think the leadership is just not there for this show anymore.

Although I think you could say that for most of these shows these days.  I haven't, and likely won't ever, watch SUPERGIRL, so I can't judge, but every other CW show has taken what was once a strength (they're not afraid to embrace the comic book-iness of it all) and turned it into a weakness, where now it feels like every episode is overstuffed with incident and insider references and C/D/E-list characters that there just isn't enough room to actually, you know...tell good stories anymore.

FLASH in particular seems like it's just turned into porn for people who can identify the 14th most important speedster in the DCU, and shit like that.

They didn't treat it as anything special in Arrow from what I can recall. It just was what it was so it didn't really feel forced or anything.

They seemed to be building her & Lord together though the latter has seemingly dropped off the face of the earth with the move.

That's fair. There's a lot of deliberation over it online and it's sort of useful in an umbrella way for the 'sexual attraction' portion of the LGBT+ umbrella and also has the benefit of being auto-adjusted for Kinsey Scale style fluctuations and acknowledgement of nonbinary gender identities. As someone who ain't straight and has a lot of trans friends, I appreciate the fluidity and versatility of it which is why it's the term I use. I feel like there's generational aspects to it as well though. But at this point it's already spiraled into a whole aside that goes beyond 'I disagree but respect where you're coming from. Here is where I'm coming from.'

ANYWAY

I'm hoping we can add a non-straight romance to Supergirl to keep the Berlanti track record going.

Also this may be the best the CW-verse has looked as a whole since Flash started. Every show has a distinct identity and is delivering so far. Here's hoping they can keep it up.

I'm wondering if Max Lord is getting retconned since they intro'd Lena Luthor and Lynda Carter's character.  I always expect someone named Luthor to eventually turn heel.  Also, I'm very happy they brought in Katie McGrath, as I've always been a fan since Merlin. Also I have a major crush, but whatever.  I agree that Supergirl as probably turned into the strongest of this set of shows.

End of November, I believe. S2E8 of Supergirl sets up the entire crossover.

Oh, and @EVA - Church isn't the "big bad" this season, so don't worry. It's still very much Prometheus.

Oh, geez.  I forgot about him already.  Probably because that's another problems I'm having with these shows right now: I thought the whole Zoom thing was a disaster last season, but rather than learn from how badly that went, they've doubled down on Mystery Villains with Prometheus on ARROW and Dr. Alchemy on FLASH.

Supergirl apparently acts as a prologue of sorts but isn't directly related. My guess is that it ends with Barry coming to get Kara as backup.

Arrow Episode 100/5x8 is the first official part of the crossover. It'll then continue to Flash 3x8 and LoT 2x7.

Didn't Berlanti say that Flash would be the beginning of the crossover, Arrow would be the middle, and LoT would be the ending?

There's 23 episodes of each of those shows, I'm fine with the big bad of each show disappearing for a few episodes. But that's just me.

Yeah, Supergirl seemingly dropped a lot of characters: No sign of Max or Lucy so far.

Apparently, a combination of budget restraints/the actors not wanting to relocate to Vancouver.  I kinda miss both characters.

Finally got caught up on Supergirl.  First three eps were fairly good, so I'm not too down on it, but, boy, do I hate pretty much every change they made from season one to season two.  Losing Callista Flockhart hurts.  The best thing about the show is Melissa Benoist being note perfect as Kara.  The second-best thing was Cat Grant.  Honestly, I thought the work/Kara/Cat stuff was far better than the superhero plotlines.  I actually had to slog through the last few episodes last season (red kryptonite on) when the super hero plots took center stage.  It seems like they're going to de-emphasize CatCo Media to make the show more action-oriented.  No surprise given it's a comic book show on the CW.

On the plus side, Flockhart's weirdly unlined face kinda weirded me out, so....  She looks great for her age, but kinda unnatural at the same time.

Writing out Cat and putting Jimmy Olsen in charge of the Catco Media was a real groaner for me too.  Seems odd, forced, and smacks of "budget won't let us add a new person to the cast".  Really hate Winn joining the DEO, too,

Kinda wanting to get caught up on Legends.  Was pretty bored by the end of season 1 but I like the concept, the cast, and most of the characters, so I'm hoping it has a good season.  Getting rid of the Hawks for now can only help, imo at least.

As a 46 year old comics geek, I'm flipping out that I just watched a tv show with Martian Manhunter, Miss Martian, Roulette, Mon-El, and fucking Dragaa .....and it's awesome. I grew up with so much shit tv versions of comics that this stuff is just the grooviest. :)

Speaking of Miss Martian, I can't handle 44 year old Sharon Leal still looking this amazing and passing for a 25 year old and being the source of all my fantasies.

44?  Are we sure she isn't dabbling in some kind of voodoo magic to look that young?  Wow.

Supergirl and Flash are bringing the goods yet again.  Really dug the superpowered fight club and liking the twist in Well's road to possible acceptance within the group.  I couldn't help but think to the Family Guy "You're a big fat phony!" line when his scene played out.
