WRESTLER OF THE DAY: OSAMU NISHIMURA

RIPPA

Recommended Posts

So today is the anniversary of ECW forming (going by it being the date of Shane Douglas chucking the title)

So looking at that show it reminded me that Osamu Nishimura fucking worked ECW.

God I love Osamu Nishimura

God I hate ECW

aaaaand nowhere to be found is the amazing Fujinami match from MUGA. Oh well.

EDIT: That Takayama match... I don't have the words. You know something's great when Chono, Tenzan, and Nagata are staring ringside like young boys trying to learn from what's going on in the ring. And if anyone can find the full Kawada match I will make it rain on them.

There was a time in 2002 where if you told me Nish was the best wrestler in the world, I wouldn't have argued. The 2002 G-1 was all his and while it was Tak's coming out party, it was Nish who shined. This is my personal favorite match from the 2003 G-1, complete with Jun Akiyama being the best invading heel ever.

The Nish is my all-time favorite midcarder-slash-round robin tournament disruptor of all time (apologies to Yutaka Yoshie and Toru Yano). His ability to be a 30 minute draw threat AND a flash rollup threat made those sort of Nish matches particularly engaging - including his underrated Champions Carnival runs. Glad somebody posted a match of his with Suwama, they jelled pretty well. They had a good Triple Crown match in 2008.

Nishimura/Kawada also happened in the 2005 G1 Climax and I remember it being solid. Can't say I remember a thing about Kawada's Triple Crown defense against him, thought.
