Count me in as liking Quantum of Solace.

We also watched The Equalizer. I liked it a lot. The face is never in any peril, but sometimes it's fun to watch an unstoppable killing machine.

That said, I'm sick to fucking death of tatted up Russian mobsters and sex traffickers being bad guys in movies.

Where are all the movies about the heroic sex traffickers!?

The Mack was awesome. So was Willie Dynamite. I don't want Hollywood to remake these movies.

Watched IT FOLLOWS last night. I liked it overall, but also felt like the monster made no sense.

If the idea is that it can appear as anyone in order to get close to you, then why does it constantly make itself as conspicuous as possible? And old lady in a dressing gown wandering your college campus? A naked dude standing akimbo atop a roof? A freaking Lurch-looking dude? And on and on.

I can think of only one instance in the whole movie where the form it took actually made sense.

And don't even get me started on the kids' idiotic plan to kill it.

The sleazy dude who passed it on to the girl at the beginning had kinda turned face for me by the end of the movie. That dude had a PLAN.

The thing's overarching approach was to walk directly at its victim at a steady pace. I don't think it's much of a strategist.

I loved Casino Royale. The ending kind of drags a bit but the opening chase scene is tremendous as is the poker scene. I know people lose their shit over the poker scene and how absurd it is but it's fucking awesome so whatever!  QoS is not very good. I think I liked the ending?  It's pretty boring.  I thought Skyfall was great. Beautiful film.

So I was watching The Patriot last night (shut up, it's a guilty pleasure) when something hit me - Mel Gibson has a strange habit of playing widower characters.

The Patriot.

Signs.

Lethal Weapon.

Mad Max.

All of them have dead wives. Is this just a coincidence or does Gibson have a thing for playing the emotionally destroyed, greiving husband?

Casino Royal also had Ursula Andress laying Vesper Lynd, and, blasphemy against a certain spy icon aside, it's the best Bond girl ever, both in performance and writing.

Fixed

I really tried to watch that movie when you picked it for the club, but it was so bad.

So I was watching the always hilarious The Great Outdoors and it's one of those movies I love and watch almost annually, but this is the first time watching it that I realized it's also really excessively poorly-made: there are some pretty glaring continuity errors all over the place (When John Candy is undressing his wife near the start, she's wearing a full slip, but all of a sudden, it's just a bra; when the son accidentally gooses the girl with the pool cue and she spins around, sending the cue flying, to confront him, the pool cue is miraculously back in his hand); the whole storyline with the son and the local girl plays the exact same music every time, is badly underwritten and feels like it was a totally different story that they just wedged into this one because they didn't have enough material to pull it off.  But, I still love it.

Also watched The 'Burbs which kind of gets better with each subsequent rewatch.  It's so dark, and the cast is so good (Tom Hanks, Rick Ducommun, Bruce Dern, Carrie Fisher, Corey Feldman...back when it was acceptable to like him), and it's funny and crazy, and the neighbourgs kind of really remind me of my neighbours which adds a whole new level of enjoyment to the film.

He's a widower in Braveheart, as well.

Yeah, it's definitely pretty cheap-looking and cliche, but I also love it. Lucy Deakins (the love interest) went to my high school, a class ahead of me. This was also the height of her acting career.

Does Hustle and Flow count?

Not sure where to put this....Is the newish as for the new mission impossible the first time Rotten Tomato is used as a viable source for movie reviews?

Some other film released this summer cited their Rotten Tomatoes score in tv ads, but I don't remember which.  It was prob a few weeks ago (a month, maybe?) so it wasn't MI.  First time I'd ever seen that though, so Mission Impossible may be the 2nd movie to cite RT.

Re-watched The Wolf of Wall Street and it was good, but not great. I really wish they gave more time to Kyle Chandler, but the depravity of everything in that office was enthralling. It's not as re-watchable as the other Scorsese movies, but I think it's definitely a fine piece of film.

Interested on how you felt about Belfort and co on rewatch.

Most people I spoke to came away from the first viewing thinking he was amazing, wishing they had the life etc but on re-watching they start to see him in a more cynical/pathetic light.

It's a really interesting piece to go back over and see how differently you feel.

Watched Inherent Vice today. Man, that film is horny. Really horny. I don't know that I've ever used that adjective to describe a film (hell, a lot of porno can't even go by that though it's meant to get you off), but that one... whew. Not really what I expected but most everything in that film is not what me or anyone else might expect.

Went to see Pixels over the weekend.  Ugh.  Adam Sandler may be the only force on earth that could make me hate 80's video games.

Saw this yesterday. It's up there for one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Whoever wrote the script should die in a house fire.
