Reed
Fast and Furious 8 trailer: "OMG, is Dom suddenly evil now? Has he randomly and suddenly turned on everyone he loves and cares about?!" *me* "Um, probably not, no. He's undercover." The most obvious plot twist in film history since you recognised instantly who the old lady in The Notebook was.

J.T.
I really liked Rogue Nation. It did a better job of being a Bond movie than most Bond movies not named Skyfall. As for similarities between the Bond world and the new MI world:. Spoiler I thought it was interesting that both Hunt and Bond have managed to bring the BBEG in alive in the most recent movies in the respective franchises. What did the Brits do in the news to piss us off at the time for us to make a movie about how MI6 created their own terrorist organization? I also think it is interesting that both Rogue Nation and Spectre have the element where the good guy spy organization is in the midst of having to justify its existence. More specifically, the need to keep human beings on the payroll. Even today in real life, there is a constant battle to strike a balance between HUMINT (intel gathered from people by other people) and ELINT (intel gathered through computers and networks). No idea what happened. Being a black actress in Hollywood. That's what happened. http://www.eurweb.com/2011/11/thandie-newton-keeps-it-real-about-racism-in-the-entertainment-industry/# Also this: Quote I've experienced racism in Hollywood but not as conflict or in a threatening way, just the ignorance of people. There was one time I went for a meeting for this big movie and I was up for a character who wasn't written as black. The character was a college graduate and the studio head, a woman, said, 'How can we make this role more black if we are going to have you in the film?' And I said, 'Well, I think as it's written it's fine...' And she said, 'Yeah, I know, but she is a graduate, she has been to university.' So I said, 'I've been to university.' And then it was, 'Yeah, but you're different.' I wasn't offended. It's just nonsense. But no, I didn't do the film. Oh, and this: http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/entertainment/news/thandie-newton-im-out-for-hollywood-over-sexual-abuse-coverups-35022578.html She has been pretty damn outspoken about racism and sexual abuse in the entertainment industry over the years. Unless it's window dressing at an awards show and the like, Hollywood ain't here for that.
BurningBeard
Just stumbled upon this again and didn't know if you guys were aware Henry Cavill had been cast in MI6? He was great in Man From UNCLE so think it's a solid casting choice, wonder if he'll be taking the torch from Cruise?

John from Cincinnati
I won't be able to see this till next week but I'm super excited. I rewatched Rogue Nation last night, and it was so much fun. It was like a bonkers old school James Bond movie.

Craig H
Wow, this was the most intense entry yet and the first time references to previous movies were included. It's also the first entry that acts as a sequel to the previous entry. I wish I knew that going in because this was part 2 to Rogue Nation's part 1 and there's so little I remember from Rogue Nation. Even without remembering much from that movie, this was still incredible. It's definitely the best all-out action Mission: Impossible and it's more action than spy/espionage stuff. Part of me really missed the intricate twists and turns though. That's not to say that this is without any twists, it's just that the ones that are there are very obvious or they weren't that jaw dropping. It's kind of like how when we watch wrestling and we'd just wish the writing staff would just make the logical choice even if that's the most boring one. There's just no big "gotcha" type moment or moment where it's revealed how the good guys pulled one over on the bad guys. It's just straight up action where more and more of the story reveals itself along the way, which is fine because it's so well done. The other thing that stood out to me was how much this felt like The Dark Knight, or rather, the best parts of The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. Couple things to mention in spoilers too: Spoiler I loved the call back to Max and White Widow being Max's daughter. I thought that was very cool. The loose threads with Ethan's marriage were finally tied up and this felt like the best time for that. ROCK CLIMBING! The call backs to Ethan's motorcycle riding and rock climbing prowess were good. I'm glad those were paid off. Anyway, I'm guessing that the next one will probably be the last to feature Tom Cruise. I'd love for them to try and find a way to weave someone from the past back in, but I'm not sure who. I'm basically looking for something that plays off of Jim Phelps being revealed as the big bad. in the first movie.
Niners Fan in CT
I loved that one twist Wolf Blitzer! But damn this was an incredible thrill ride. The "bathroom" scene was fucking amazing and the last 25 minutes or so is edge of your seat shit. Great movie. I think I might prefer this film series to the Daniel Craig Bonds. I do still love Casino Royale though.

Spoiler I was going in expecting zany Mission Impossible fun. Instead, the tone takes a sharp turn towards super dark and the title of the film suggests it could be for real. Then, boom. Lights out. Walls down. Blitzer mask. Fuck you, terrorist zealot scum! We got exactly what we wanted! Roll credits! Fantastic stuff.
(BP)
Echoing all of the love for Fallout. I firmly think the last three MI films are better than any Bond film in the last twenty years besides Casino Royale. I happened to watch The Hunt for Red October right before I went to see Fallout, and it was weirdly poignant watching fresh faced young Alec Baldwin tangling with a series of graying supporting character actors then seeing him as the graying supporting character actor.
Eivion
Finally saw Fallout last night with my brother and father and we dug it. Really glad I re-watched Rogue Nation before it. Pretty much loved all of the same stuff mentioned here already.
BurningBeard
As much as I’d like to see what original material McQuarrie has in the tank (anyone remember the great Persons Unknown?) a part of me also wants him to write/direct every Mission Impossible film from now on. Or at least do the next (and possibly last with Tom Cruise) one as this definitely feels like a trilogy with the Syndicate and Ilsa and Solomon still in play. From the opening of Rogue Nation it truly felt like McQ was the first person to helm the films who actually got the tone and aesthetic of the old series right and while this one jettisoned that to be more actiony it still felt right and like Craig H said the callbacks were well done. And jeez those last 15 minutes were about as tense as I've been in the cinema.
