Reed
OK, not the best films. Not the best written. Not the best performances. Just to look at. What's the best? My suggestions: Dark City. You ever wondered what Batman: The Animated Series would have looked like live action? Essentially this. Blade Runner The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari Metropolis Marie Antoinette (the only good Sofia Coppola film, IMO) Sleepy Hollow Batman Returns

supremebve
Belly is one of the worst movies of all time, but I'll be damned if it doesn't look really amazing.
Elsalvajeloco
Belly is one of the worst movies of all time, but I'll be damned if it doesn't look really amazing. Belly 2, which was named that only after the fact, is perhaps the worst movie of all time. But yeah, Hype Williams did an amazing job with that movie. The actual content of it? Not so much. Still a guilty pleasure of mine though.
Reed
Oh, and The Cell. Which would have otherwise been the most generic '00s serial killer movie ever if it were not for the great visuals.
Kuetsar
Lawrence of Arabia, is an all time great movie, and looks spectacular as well. That sunset in Gone with the Wind as well. . . .

PuroresuFan
Skyfall off the top of my head. I'd love to see what those scenes will look like in 4K. And oddly enough, I remember the opening for A Million Ways to Die in the West to have some beautiful shots of I believe Monument Valley in Utah. I forgot about this movie. I saw The Cell in the theater, and I can't remember anything about the plot. There are a shitload of crazy visuals though, and I'm not just talking about an in her prime Jennifer Lopez.

Still a guilty pleasure of mine though. Belly should have been a series of music videos put together to tell a story, they just took out the part that would have made it interesting...the music. Well, some of the scenes felt like the start of music videos. The Sister Nancy bit is so Hype Williams, but then it goes into the cribbed Scarface shootout with Ox. If Louie Rankin wasn't a real life crazy Jamaican, then that would stunk more than it did. Speaking of crazy Jamaicans, Shottas is basically an overrated, diluted derivative of Belly. Just sub in one of Bob Marley's kids, another guy with dreads, and Wyclef Jean for Nas and DMX. The movie was terrible outside of the music. Since I swear I gave my answers in another thread just like this, I will just go by DP this time: Dariusz Wolski (Prometheus, The Counselor) Sławomir Idziak (Black Hawk Down) John Toll (The Thin Red Line, The Adjustment Bureau, Cloud Atlas w/ Frank Griebe) Robert Richardson (Platoon, The Doors, JFK, Heaven & Earth, Casino, Wag the Dog, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, Inglourious Basterds, Shutter Island, Django Unchained) John Mathieson (Gladiator, Robin Hood, Great Expectations) Anthony Dod Mantle (The Last King of Scotland, 127 Hours, Trance, Rush) Robert Elswit (Most of his filmography with There Will Be Blood being the best example IMO) Claudio Miranda (Most of his filmography; loved how he did Oblivion) Bradford Young (Selma, A Most Violent Year) Vilmos Zsigmond (Most of his filmography; The Deer Hunter and Heaven's Gate are just amazing to look at even if both movies seem seven hours long) Roger Deakins is amazing so ditto on Skyfall among others. No Country for Old Men and True Grit would be the ones I would pick out for him. Basically, all the Coen brothers movies look great. Blood Simple is amazing for a movie that probably cost seven dollars to make. Even though Gordon Willis should get props for The Godfather, his work on The Godfather: Part II, my favorite movie of all time, is just astonishing. Other ones of the top of my head: Gigi (didn't like the movie but it is pretty to look at), Superfly, Jeremiah Johnson, and basically all the classic stuff of Sergio Leone and Sam Peckinpah. The Asian cinema ones will be saved for the third go round of this thread. I'm going to watch Samsara this week, and that most likely will be on the list.

Reed
Suspiria! Yes, yes, this is true. I heard they based the cinematography on the scenery from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Only, you know, with horrible murders.

Ottar the Viking
The Quiet Man looks great. If you've only seen the cruddy two-strip transfer to vhs, or the DVDs made from that, check out the one Netflix is streaming right now. Gorgeous.
