JULY 2015 WRESTLING DISCUSSION V.2.0

I would never go to The Undertaker's funeral. Have you guys SEEN the kinds of crazy things that happens when he gets put into a coffin? Either someone's going to set it on fire or it's going to explode and his body is going to rise to the ceiling. No thanks.

I always found with Efed's that it was fun writing the shows. Then that fun turned to exhaustion bcause holy shit some of those things get long. The fastest way to burnout is to do them yourself. But between promos and the shows it's probably was ended up directing me towards screenwriting. I haven't done a match in a while, but the last time I did it was just usually me paying tribute to Mid-atlantic or something in the pacing.

My respect for Opie and Anthony and Jim Norton went up exponentially today after I discovered a bunch of Youtube clips of the three of them ripping apart Todd Pettengill.

18 years since he last worked for the WWF, but I still go into a frothing rage whenever I think of how awful WWF Action Zone was.

Pretty sure the E-Fed over on the SSS boards just used Firepro or some shit to sim the matches.

There were lots of these. I mainly fucked around with the gameFAQs centered Fire Pro ones, which was it's own special weird nightmare time in my life. Shit, this might be admitting too much, but my usual dropback "I'm depressed and need to watch something while I cope/come up with a plan" move is to start up my copy of Fire Pro Returns and basically run an e-fed in my own head. So deep are the scars from that time of my life.

I actually found this place through one of them, what must have been under a month before the sleaze thread. Right around the same time. SO DEEP etc etc

And yeah there was a few goes at an e-fed on here on the last board infrastructure that ended pretty much as Fowler described it. Both times, it was the most fun I've ever had doing one and it was a lot like closure. Worked out too, because all of that creative impulse gave way so I could start making music when I needed to.

In a somewhat related but not really related at all kind of thing.......on the Marc Maron WTF podcast with Rich Vos last week, they were talking about and name dropping guys in the old New York stand-up scene and mention Rob Bartlett. No stories or anything, but I thought it was interesting to hear his name show up like that. Does anybody know what kind of presence Rob had on the scene back then, and just HOW he got picked as a color guy for RAW? It was so weird to me seeing this weird dude I had never heard of show up on the first episode of the show, and then add practically nothing to the show at all. I was happy when Heenan got his rightful place back in the booth when they kicked him to the curb.

I totally "mind booked" a dojo level feeder fed on Fire Pro from the comfort of my own brain.

When I was part of an E-Fed there was someone who not only posed as a woman and stole her Facebook pictures, but created tons of alt accounts on Facebook of people of which all the pictures were stolen from other accounts that were friends of the person who had her pictures stolen. So who knows, if that can happen, r/squaredcircle has the right to be 1,000 alt accounts by the same person as much as anything else.

Unrelated but E-Feds lasted until the Facebook era? I was last in one back in like 2000-2001.

It was a lot of fun. I just remember people going into Yahoo's wrestling chatrooms and spamming their efeds. That was how I found the feds I joined at first and then moved around via word of mouth.

That's about the time I stopped.  I think I ended up getting some convoluted Kane-Esque bank story that made the guy a Norwegian-Mexican war criminal's kid luchador with an insane servant  and American brother.

And Six man Scramble did a lot of my booking as well.

I am trying to figure out how David Otunga working a house show is a SURPRISE RETURN!!!

Hasn't Otunga been in the Then, Now, Forever opening for a while?

My e-fed guy was a psychotic ex-con born again Christian.

In hindsight, mine was basically a combination of Kevin Nash and Ric Flair in Scott Hall body.  Weren't e-feds the best?

Presumably hailing from the Department Of Redundancy...Department.

I think e-fed stuff actually helped me as a writer. I wrote epics such as "Bizarre Love Pentagon," "the People vs. Brittany" and "The Dead Ed Project." I'd probably hate to revisit them, but they were fairly long form complete stories with a beginning, middle and end.

And the e-fed I ran was storyline and feud based and I would force my players to react to crap I pulled on them instead of just arbitrarily awarding wins and losses based on the "quality" of their promos.

I'm assuming you're referring to Otunga wrestling at a house show yesterday?  He rarely wrestles anymore.  He wrestled a match in Rockford yesterday because he grew up nearby.

I think the real surprise is that Otunga is still around since he seems to have other options.

The E-Fed chat made me pine for the early 2000s internet of RSPW, geocities NEWZ sites, Zeus Pro E-Fed Program, TNM and the early DOS extreme warfare games. Those were some heady days!

My most successful efed character was basically a drunk Boston Mick Foley who hung around with a leprechaun only he could see. I would spend more time on writing bad promos for him than I would on coursework and socialising when I was at college. Nerd!

My one and only E-Fed run was with a shitty indie masked guy called El Goblin. His career was short lived as the fed folded before he could even have a match. He still sits at home, waiting for the call...

--Speaking of which, even more fantasy is the stories of Shinsuke Nakamura and Kazuchika Okada doing a WWE tryout.  It was somebody's idea of a joke on Twitter and somehow that became news.

From today's Meltzer update.

Even he has learned to not say his name
