JULY! is THE MONTH OF METAL DISCOVERY! here at the DVDVRMB

Recommended Posts

We'll get two days to get totally psyched and I'm gonna post old metal I finally got around to listening to the last 11 months.

I REALLY dug all the Riot I heard the last month. The Privilege Of Power is an AWESOME record.

This was the best metal record I've heard in a while.

Which is even better than their demo which I took 29 years to realize had Tom G Warrior singing on.

And YOU!

A brand new High on Fire was released without me even knowing until this morning. I knew I should've liked them on Facebook months ago.

I listened to this on the way home from work.  That first fast song is the best Motorhead song since 1985.

I don't listen to a ton of metal, but this got put out by No Idea! which is a big punk label, so I listened to it by chance.

It's sort of a black metal/traditional metal/punk hybrid with all the songs about orcs and dragons and shit. It's worth a listen if you like music taken directly from someone's D&D game.

Edit: How do I fix the stupid youtube link? posting the share link used to work and now it doesn't.

Black Tower is a bunch of members of a punk band called Crusades. They've always had this weird kinda black metal ish aesthetic even though it's totally not even close to their style.

Oooo, and this one.

Ghost Bath is fake Chinese. It's a white dude from North Dakota.

For real Chinese, try these:

For non-Chinese hipster metal but still international, try:

Cult of Fire (album written entirely in Sanskrit) (from Czech Republic)

Woods of Desolation (Australia)

Negura Bunget (Romania)

And here's some bonus doom~! metal:

Pallbearer (off the Decibel flexi)

Shape of Despair

Oh.  Shoegaze metal is what you're looking for:

Alcest

Les Discrets

Whirr

I just sent Earache a pretty chunk of change for their vinyl re-release of this, should be here this week

Sadly the totally boss extra colors were already sold out and I had to get the black: http://uswebstore.earache.com/vinyl/carnage-dark-recollections-vinyl

Swedish death + Dan Seagrave art = perfection

Oh, btw, this band turned into a little band named Dismember and was the first sighting of a young guitar player named Mike Amott
