Recommended Posts

I'm not sure is this is appropriate, and Mods, if it isn't, by all means delete my post, but I want to set this post up for folks looking for IT and Finance Jobs.

I'm a Recruiter/Headhunter for a staffing agency that places people all across the U.S. and Canada.  If you are looking a new career opportunity or have any questions, please feel free to inbox me and maybe we can talk.  I deal mostly with IT developers and engineer positions however, I do have lower level jobs such as Compliance Analysts and Help Desk jobs too.  If you're looking for a finance job, Florida is my main spot for that.

If you inbox me, and are interested, just tell me where you live at, and what type of position you're looking for, and I'll let you know what I have available.

As a retired headhunter, let me pass on the one question for candidates that will spare you hours of the grief that comes from dealing with flakes, weirdos and goofballs who can hide behind a seemingly stellar resume. The question is this: "Can you bake a cake?" There is only one acceptable answer, and that is "Yes, I can."

Why is this important? The directions to baking a cake are given step by step on the box. You do need to be a pastry chef or dessert specialist to  bake a cake. You need to be able to follow a very simple set of directions. A candidate who is unable to bake a cake is telling you in so many words that they are either unwilling or incapable of following directions and working with them will accomplish nothing except pissing off hiring authorities and making you look foolish.

The candidate who says "No." is the guy that shows up an hour early for his interview and stands around bothering the receptionist with questions that he/she should know the answers to. This is the candidate that shows up with a sack lunch and consumes same during the interview, explaining that they need to watch their blood sugar. This is the person that you work your ass off trying to find a time that suits both your hiring authority and the candidate. After much to-do, you set up a lunch meeting at a local steak house. Your candidate shows up wearing full medieval attire, explaining that he's in SCA and has a tournament scheduled right after lunch... Yeah, these are all true stories, as is the one about the guy that showed up and produced a vial of coke, asking the HA if he wanted a bump.

All these happened to me because I forgot to ask the question...

Based on your description of the task, I have the ability to bake a cake, but as I have never actually done so, I would feel compelled to point this out, and would have to note that I cannot assume I would do so due to insufficient data.

What if the true answer is "I've never once baked a cake in my entire life, so I hesitate to give an unqualified "yes" for a response, even though that's obviously the answer you'd prefer"?

And to Madcap: have anything for a just-failed-out-of-college English Major dropout who completely lacks any form of transportation and can pretty much only do online work? (No, it's not a serious question; and yeah, that's where I've fallen to now...)

As an addendum, if there is a job that I need help with, I'll post it on this thread.

Additionally, if I post something and you refer someone to me that gets placed , I'll personally pay you a generous finders fee(in the hundreds). :-)

I really need a change of pace with my employment.  I've been in my current job for nearly 12 years and if I'm being honest, it's become a burden.  It's emotionally draining. I feel like I've been through too many changes and seemingly add a new supervisor every year.  I'm tired.

But having a degree in English limits the possibilites in my area.  I have no desire to be a teacher, So I'm trying to think of any online spots I can go for.

It's disappointing.

Great! I have special file for candidates such as yourself, I'll put your resume there and call you as soon as an opportunity comes up!

How about "Of course I can bake a cake. Anyone can make a cake. It won't be a GOOD cake, but I'm pretty sure I can make one."
