SOCCER - Spring 2015

Dortmund in the cup final.

Bayern misses FOUR out of FOUR! The first two were John-Terry-Memorial slip ups! I´m speechless, amazed and somewhat ecstatic due to the fact that it´s no national double for Bayern.

EDIT: The internet is a place of wonder...here´s the penalty shootout,,,

Bayern seemed to have disappeared in the second half. Dortmund also benefited from the ref. not seeing a handball and for the ref. not calling a penalty on Langerak for hard foul on Leandowski in the box when he went up for the header. That foul visibly shook Lewandoski and sent him to the hospital according to Pep's post match interview. Pep was irate at the ref. not calling the penalty. He had to have his sideline assistant coaches calm him down.

Robben made a return from injury as a sub. in the second half and ironically enough suffered another injury and was pulled out a couple of minutes afterwards.

The penalty situation was a fiasco on Bayern's end. Like Reise said, Lahm and Alonso slipped on the exact same spot.

Sucks Bayern doesn't get a chance at a treble this season, but I'm glad Klopp gets a chance a title before he leaves at the end of the season.

Tough game for Bayern. Robben is back on the injured list, Thiago maybe added to the list as he hurt his left leg in a collision with a Dortmund player and Lewandoski was taken to the hospital.

Not many details have been released as to when they'll be back and if they'll be available for any upcoming matches yet. Sucks having Alaba out with injury and losing Robben back again so quickly isn't a good thing specially with the big game next week against Barca. However hopefully Robben's injury isn't bad and he can return in time.

If they go out against Barca, they at least won the Bundesliga again.

Thiago tweeted he's fine, Lewandowski's agent however tweeted that after all the exams, he's not doing that well. I hope it's nothing serious.

So BOTH Madrid teams are facing one year transfer bans apparently,

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/apr/29/atletico-madrid-real-madrid-transfer-embargo-reports?CMP=share_btn_tw

Now assuming that they aren't appealed (or the appeals are handled before august, ha, as if..) None of the top three teams in Spain will be able to buy players this summer.

Same issue as Barcelona, problem with signing foreign U-18 players.

I actually just thought of this: NYCFC should try a ground-share with Columbia at Wien Stadium. On the smallish side (17K) to be sure and there's no real parking, but they could easily port in temporary seating and the sightlines would be a million times better plus you have beaucoup public transit options between subway, bus and Metro North all a few blocks away.

Well, well, well...

CONCACAF Champions League final in Montreal a very testy affair thus far.

It's weird to see Frank Klopas in this position when he wasn't able to do much of anything with the Chicago Fire. But my overall loathing of America trumps all at the moment.

Wheels falling off for Montreal in such a tire fire. Fuck.

MLS peeps: are the Impact this goddamn awful? If so, it's a miracle they made it this far. But this America team is so fucking inconsistent. They got blown out 3-0 in Costa Rica to Herediano, then blow out the same team 6-0 in the Azteca in the return leg.

Charlton 0-3 Bournemouth

Watford 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Bournemouth pip Watford to the Championship... er, championship. Norwich vs Ipswich and Boro vs Brentford in the playoffs.

Juve won their fourth Scudetto in a row today beating Sampdoria 0-1.

Bayern lost to Leverkusen 2-0, but they already have their third German Championship in a row locked, so that doesn't matter to them.

Celtic also won their fourth Scottish Premiership title in a row.

Barcelona sit at the top of La Liga with a current 5 point lead over Real Madrid after scoring 8 goals on Cordoba. Real is currently playing against Sevilla, but are up by 2 goals, so there's a good chance they bring the lead back down to 2 points if they can hold on to their lead.

Ronaldo hat trick.

Sevilla down 2-1, Real went up 3-1 and then Sevilla scored another late in the game and came within inches of a draw in the least 4 or 5 minutes of the match.

Orlando City beat Ponte Preta 3-2 and the fans celebrated like they won the MLS playoff finals, but bear with them, it's Orlando City's first win at the Citrus Bowl.

Crazy game. It was heading towards a 2-2 draw and a Ponte Preta player fouled Cyle Larin inside the box leading to the game winning penalty.

OC!

So, before this week's round of Premiership matches, did all the refs get together and say 'Lets all give a penalty and/or show a red card this week'?

Specifically, parking fancy cars illegally because they'd rather pay the fine for that, than park in an actual parking space and walk twenty feet further.

Three games left to go for the Bundesliga.

A few weeks back I stated that the Top 2 are pretty much locked, but since then, Wolfsburg hit a slight slump while Gladbach and Leverkusen were on an amazing run. As of now, Bayern - champions since last week - sit on 76, Wolfsburg on 62 and Gladbach and Leverkusen on 60 and 58 points respectively. Gladbach v Leverkusen on the next matchday will be pretty much the decider as to who secures direct qualification, the winner putting pressure on Wolfsburg as to the prestigious "Not-Bayern-Championship", so to speak.

Schalke (45) caught a break in their attempt at securing the EL-spot by winning their home game against Stuttgart, while Augsburg (43) are struggling: Bremen (42), Hoffenheim (41) and Dortmund (40) are all well within reach of sixth place.Seventh place might even be enough, since Wolfsburg and Dortmund are playing the cup final.

The most thrilling battles are to be seen in the nether regions of the table:
Hamburg and Paderborn both secured 2:1 away wins which were HUGE. Bottom looks the following:

14. Hamburg 31 points

15. Paderborn 31 points

16. Freiburg 30 points

17. Hannover 30 points

18. Stuttgart 27 points

The schedule adds to the drama, lots of direct match-ups. Freiburg looks f´ed.

Hamburg: Freiburg (Home), Stuttgart (Away), Schalke (H)
Paderborn: Wolfsburg (H), Schalke (A), Stuttgart (H)

Freiburg: Hamburg (A), Bayern (H), Hannover (A)
Hannover: Bremen (H), Augsburg (A), Freiburg (H)
Stuttgart: Mainz (H), Hamburg (H), Paderborn (A)
