The Marvel Things That Aren't "Marvel" Things

This movie was so retarded and awesome.  Best post credit scenes ever.

I love how the franchise is becoming more like the concept of the comics that has a "serious" comic book story, yet makes fun of comic books in general.

I think things rely too much on Ryan Reynold's self depreciating humor, though.  You can only drag so many jokes out of the not so great movies from the X-Men franchise or your own missteps in your career.

I feel the post credits scene should put a lot of that to bed.

My one complaint about both the films is the way the other characters never react to Deadpool breaking the fourth wall. They don't treat it in universe as a sign of how fucking nuts Wade went after Weapon Plus got done with him. And it's the only thing that really separates him from the smart ass he already was in the movie.

I'm really curious what kind of tone they'll aim for with X-Force. I kinda hope it's more serious with Wade serving as a Looney Tunes style dose of chaos and humor. Show him in that element, as a the destabilizing force.

Yeah, the first scene in the next movie with both Cable and Domino really needs a "Who is he talking to?" "How the fuck should I know?" exchange. Felt lacking to me, too. Of course, if they really wanted to flip people's wigs, they could run the Loki plot from the comics, now that Hiddleston is ostensibly free.

For the record, yeah, DP2 was pretty great. Arguably the best movie I've ever seen in theatres, though that hit list is so grotesquely awful it isn't a giant compliment (Only other movies in the running are Hunchback of Notre Dame and Space Jam)

The X-Force getting killed was hilarious to me. Though part of me kinda wanted DP to find a way to save everyone except Shatterstar at the end cause fuck that guy.

The side characters were muxh better in this then in the 1st overall. Also, Colossus actually holding his own with Juggy was fun. And I also laughed very hard at "Don't sleep with Elvis, Don't sleep with Colossus"

Can we unpack this statement more? Were you in Witness Protection in upstate Alaska since 1996 and only just got back to society?

The key word in there is "In Theatre"

Off memory, listing of movies I saw in theatre is.... Power Rangers, Space Jam, Jungle to Jungle, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Star Wars Episode 1, Ocean's 12, Amazing Spider-Man, and now Deadpool 2.

I’ve prob seen that many movies in a week back when I was a film critic and taking 2 film classes a semester.

I was going to let it go to respect El Dragon's privacy, but I'm glad everyone else found this notable. I'm essentially a high-functioning agoraphobe, but my wife still drags me out to the movies. As a former movie theater employee and even moreso former fat kid trying to stay cool in the summer, I've probably seen a few hundred movies in a theater.

Again, I don't want to gang up on Dragon. That's just wild. But, I can see putting DP2 at the top of that list.

I love how that drew 3 responses of dismay within 2 minutes.

I do enjoy going to the movies, but I also currently don't have a car, or live within 15 minutes of a theatre with said car I don't have, so unless someone offers or I pay an Uber, I'm kinda stuck.

Also, as you can probably guess, with my listing of movies seen, there has never really been a "Man, watching movie in a movie theater is fucking amazing" type of moment for me. I thought Star Wars was going to be that moment, and instead I just remember going "Wow, there's a lot of people here and this movie is boring. But this is Star Wars, so the movie probably isn't boring, I must just not like going to see movies in crowds". Or at least that is the closest thing to a justification.

I have a really awesome list of movie going experiences,  I love the movies but instead I'll focus of some of my worst experiences.  Final Fantasy comes to mind.  I thought it was going to be like the video games,  wow it was not.  Not at all.   Starsky and Hutch was pretty shitty too.  I didn't laugh once.  I kept looking at my watch like when the fuck is this going to end.  I don't think I've ever walked out though.  Actually I take that back.  I walked out of Brother's Grimm I think it was called?  We went over to see Skeleton Key instead.  I think we made the right choice.

Worst movie going experience might have been having to see a very bad print of Nashville in film class. It was so bad the professor thanks those of us who stayed until the very end. That's not a movie to see with bad sound.

My worst film in a theater experience might have to be Doom.  I was curious to see what The Rock could do in it and thought it'd at least be entertaining.  Aside from the brief moment with the BFG it was a pile of shit that even he talks shit about now.  At least I was with friends who rightly shat on it so it wasn't a total loss.  The more I think about it that might be the only Rock movie I've seen in theaters, that's mainly due to either catching it on Bluray or just not seeing it at all.  I really should fix that and see one of his newer movies.

I'm not going to pile on El Dragon though.  I do go more than he does but it's a pain in the ass.  The ticket prices plus concessions are too expensive for me to do on a semi-regular basis.  Then there's the other normal hassles like finding a good seat, dealing with rude people and 15 minutes of trailers.  So long story short there's no shame in not going much.  And with technology there's multiple ways you can catch them at home anyway.

As for Deadpool 2 I fucking loved it, and count me in the camp that liked it better than the first.  While it might not have had the constant zany moments the story was worlds better.  If somebody isn't a huge fan of Deadpool constantly taking the piss out things then this is worth checking out where you can get a bit more seriousness that pays off in the end.

I remember that Anna Paquin movie Darkness being a really tough sit in a theater. I really didn't care for the American version of The Grudge, but I think between all of the dates or trips with friends at the time I ended up seeing it like four or five times. And every time some asshole middle school kid would call their friend sitting somewhere else in the theater and make that ghost noise. Best bad movie in a theater has to be the Christian Slater Alone in the Dark because my friends and I were the only ones there and we got to MST3K it.

Oh, and that Gerard Butler/Kathryn Heigel romcom was brutal. I'm easy to make laugh, and I never even came close to polite chuckling.

It was either Wild Things or Species 2. I pretty much hung out with just girls at that point and a few us went. I thought it would be weird, but the movies sucked, we were the only teens in each one, and we rightfully shit all over them. Not many things to do when you're bored and over 16, but under 18.

We also saw The Grudge in the theater and I felt it was a pretty awesome theater going experience because it's a movie that probably would have shit on if I'd seen it at home but it was opening night and the theater was PACKED and people were losing their shit over every scare.

When the wife and I were first married, we lived near a budget theater that showed a lot of old movies and cult classics.  Theater showed Strange Brew one night, and we went.  This would have been around 1994 or 95, a decade or so after Strange Brew was first released.  Anyway, there's only about six people in the entire theater.  20-30 minutes into the film, the college-age girl sitting a few rows to our right climbs into her boyfriend's lap and they begin having unquiet sex.

I'm ok with going home at this point, wife decides we're staying.  I'm somewhat creeped out by ignoring the pink elephant in the room - and, god, I hope that's not an apt euphemism for the dude's equipment - and really out of sorts by the wife's out-of-character reaction.

Rest of the evening was equally interesting for us, so it wasn't necessarily a negative experience.

Also, Strange Brew is an awful movie I've seen a few times now.  It may be the worst movie I've ever paid to see in a theater.  I can't really think of a worse movie off the top of my head, so that's probably it.

When I went to a concert a few years ago (I think Black Sabbath) my friend Jon and I were sitting in his Jeep waiting for his wife to get back from going to the bathroom or something. Right in front of us, this couple started dry humping against a truck. They went away, presumably to find a more private spot, then came back a few minutes later, climbed into the back of the truck and... Well, yup, fucked like rabbits directly in front of us. Even once Andrea got there, we couldn't leave because the traffic was blocking us in, so I guess semi-visible live porno was on the agenda for a few minutes.
