Wimbledon officials are expected to announce later this week that the grass-court classic will not be held this summer, becoming the sporting world’s latest high-profile casualty of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Citing a German Tennis Federation vice president, Sky Sports Germany reported Monday morning that officials of All England Lawn Tennis Club, which hosts the two-week Grand Slam event, have decided against the limited options available for safely staging the tournament, which included contesting it without spectators.

“Wimbledon will decide to cancel on Wednesday,” German Tennis Federation vice president Dirk Hordorff told Sky Sports Germany, alluding to an emergency All England Club board meeting scheduled that day. “There is no doubt about it. This is necessary in the current situation.

“It is completely unrealistic to imagine that with the travel restrictions that we currently have an international tennis tournament where hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world would travel. That is unthinkable.”

This type of thing worked out so well for Braun Strowman. I am not a huge tennis fan but am aware enough that match fixing is a big issue in the sport precisely because of the fact that the vast majority of pros make very little money.

Definitely got overshadowed this weekend, but the USTA is pressing forward with the US Open being held on time in Flushing.

No fans, but it looks like it's going to happen.

Of note, the stadium and the surrounding courts served as a field hospital during the worst of the epidemic.

And it's confirmed today, the US Open will happen in Flushing with no fans in attendance.

There was some debate about moving it to Indian Wells, but the Open will continue for the 105th consecutive year to be in New York.

It begins on 8/31.

Everything is fine

BTW he is the 2nd person from that tour to test positive

Actually the fourth, Dimitrov, Troicki and Coris already tested positive. But looking at the pictures going around about the event, they basically tried everything to get infected.

The Black Delegation needs to make note of this when the next Racial Draft comes around and bring Naomi Osaka home.

The silence from the Tiger Woods Twitter account is deafening.

Has Canada ever had 3 men in the last 16 at the US Open before? I can't even imagine when the last time this was even a consideration really was. But here we are in 2020.

No, they have not.

Good. He deserved it. He left the court without shaking the umpires hand as well.

I thought it was worse that he offered it to the TD, opponent and the umpire given the need for social distancing. It looked like he extended his hand and either realised the optics of it, or the umpire refused it?
