2015 RING OF HONOR DISCUSSION THREAD

Recommended Posts

Are the announcers always on camera during the matches like that? Because my eyes kept getting drawn to Kevin Kelly watching the action and waiting for him to talk. A bit of a distraction.

Opening the show with a Briscoes promo probably guaranteed a good portion of the typical DA audience would stick around. Good gosh a mighty.

Seeing Colby Corino reminded me of when he split the uprights on Tetsuhiro Kuroda with his dad's cane a million years ago.

J. Diesel is my current most-hated really green wrestler.

I don't buy Jay Lethal as a heel. ROH tried it when they had him turn on Joe at the end of '05. Within a few months, they stopped using him. That's how badly the Lethal heel turn went back then.

Has anyone told Silas Young that he wrestles the exact opposite of how he looks?  If his gimmick is the last real man, shouldn't he be more of a bruiser/brawler and not kind of a flippy/finesse guy?  Watanabe's gimmick of suplexing someone and then screaming "SUPLEX" to the crowd is ridiculous and has less legs than Oscar Pistorius.

Is it just me, or did "King Corino" kinda no-sell his son getting destroyed?

Not just you, I was thinking Corino would have to run in to save him, but he just sat there and calmly watched his son get damn near beaten to death.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe it eventually builds to that. Or while Corino doesn't like seeing his son beaten so badly, it will help toughen him up as a man, or some other twisted Bill DeMott type logic.

Maybe Silas' gimmick is that he's such a man, he's not afraid to be a finesse guy. Sort of like, real men wear pink.

I don't think they are going for the toughen him up part with the Corino/Whitmer angle. I think what they are going for is Steve knows Whitmer is using Colby to mess with Steve's mind, and he's letting his son be his own man for now, because he doesn't want to ruin his relationship with his son by bossing him around, even though he's a man now.

Gotta be Donovan Dijak for me.  He looks like Mark Jindrak, just a tall generic dude Vince would have nutted in his pants over if he saw him in 2001.

Jindrak turned out ok once he went to Mexico and became Marco Corleone, so maybe there's hope for Dijak.

Dijak's finisher has gotta go. Looks like shit.

I didn't even want to really get into that, but yeah.  I love indies but holy fuck that finisher is the worst indy garbage.  Hopefully fireman's carries and torture racks transitioned to other things in a convoluted manner eventually go the way of the Shining Wizard.

And nevermind how shitty the finisher is; when your whole gimmick and all the announcers' hype about you is your finisher, you probably suck.  Guy walks to the ring, Kevin Kelly puts over his finish.  Guy has dull match, nobody cares.  Guy hits his finish and Kevin Kelly puts his finish over again.  Bleh.

I actually don't mind Dijak, but agree on the finisher.  Hoping he comes up with a new move soon.

I had the Sinclair airing on the DVR, but barring DVR issues am just going to stick with the DA airing.  I feel like adding to their ratings on there would help more and I want to support ROH anyway I can.  The advertising throughout the show was much better than what TNA has, it seems they're not on the DNA list.  Good thing Briscoes were the first guys you see.  Put them on damn near every show that makes sense for them on DA and I'll watch them all.  Better yet, do a reality show on them and put dual focus on their wrestling career and the chicken farm.  That'd be a license to print money.

Holy shit that's an awesome idea.

I hate DVR'ing the syndicated showing of ROH.  Where I live, the guide says it runs Sunday morning, something like 1am - 2am.  But for some reason, reruns of Castle always run until 1:15ish but the guide has never changed to reflect that, so I have to set the DVR to tape ROH plus another hour just in case.  It's shitty.

Disagree.  As noted above, his finisher sucks, but the guy has tons of potential.  You don't see a lot of 6'7" guys doing Asai moonsaults.

I have to admit I haven't seen his asai moonsault because he's so vanilla that I FFWD past his shit mostly.

Are Dijak and Diesel ROH school graduates? I saw them for the first time last night, and can't think of any other reason they might be getting work there.

The first time I saw J Diesel was at last years Best in the World where he was working security, took a chair shot to the head, ripped he shirt off and yelled. Reminded me of Ultimate Warrior in a sense.

Yeah, Dijak suffers from Billy Gunn syndrome. He's big in person but on tv it somehow doesn't translate.

Also I'd like to say I'm a big fan of Silas Young the character but not Silas Young the performer. I just want him to go full Rick Rude. He's the kind of guy who could get a neck breaker over as a finisher through sheer shit talking.
