Elsalvajeloco
Ariel Helwani @arielhelwani 12m Of course, in addition to all suspensions and fines, there is a chance the result will be changed to a no contest as well in March/April

Elsalvajeloco
"The UFC has been notified by the Nevada State Athletic Commission that Nick Diaz has tested positive for marijuana metabolites following his fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 183 on Jan. 31 in Las Vegas, Nev. The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by our athletes. As a result of his positive test, Diaz has been informed that he has violated the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC. The UFC organization will fully respect the Commission’s final decision relating to Diaz at a disciplinary hearing set for February 17." http://www.ufc.com/news/UFC-Statement-Nick-Diaz
epwar
Gotta love this Anderson quote from last year where he said positive tests should mean "no more fights" for fighters:http://mmajunkie.com/2014/10/ufcs-anderson-silva-positive-steroid-tests-should-mean-no-more-fights
jstout
Is there an official explanation why pot is such a concern? It's not exactly a performance-enhancer ... And doesn't Diaz have a prescription for weed in California? How does that affect the illegiality of it all?
A.M.B.
It definitely could alter your performance, for better or worse, if you are high at the time of fighting, and it's kinda hard to pin point when the last time someone smoked is just by a drug test. So I think that's some of the problem. But yeah, the current standards are pretty silly, especially considering it's basically legal in California and legitimately legal is a few other states. It's whatever the commission of the state he fights in has banned.
jstout
I just can't even begin to think of a way pot could enhance an athlete's performance.
DangerMark
In theory, PEDs aren't banned because they enhance performance; they're banned for the potential long term health risks. Pot is also banned for its health risks. Diaz hasn't broken the rules any less than Silva has in this particular case.
jstout
Wait, wait - a sport where people get repeatedly punched in the head many, many times over the course of their careers is concerned about the long-term health risks of pot use?
Kevin Wilson
I always assumed they were concerned the pot smoker was increasing their own risk in the match. I imagine if you are stoned your reactions speed aren't quite as good.

Double standards in sports. Who Knew? Performance enhancing drugs aren't banned because they enhance performance and recreational drugs aren't banned because they're fun. Ban the pair of them. AxB
If Diaz is going to be banned for the next 6-9 months, is there any way they can announce his comeback opponent will be Bisping right now? Because the longer those two would have to shit talk one another, the better.

Matt D
I know nothing about anything, but I want to see Brock Lesnar do Brock Lesnar-y things in wrestling and not in UFC. Is this going down a good reason for UFC to toss even more money at Brock as an attraction?
