Curt McGirt
OMEGA/NAITO pretty much looked like what Omega/Okada should have been. Still had that Superhero Wrestling horseshit for a minute at the end (which, let's face it, has been a part of puroresu since All Japan invented it in the '90s) but the selling was consistent and the reversals and spots were crazy. Naito should have won with the Sambo Lock instead of the big finisher exchange finish but you can't get blood from a stone, I guess. The Shibata/EVIL match I'll watch on the replay, was on the phone. Ramo2653
The Omega/Naito match was nuts. Shibata/Evil as nuts in a different way but fun. The Omega/Goto match was ok, but I'm just not into Goto.
Curt McGirt
SHIBATA/FISH started off real slow but picked up a bit with lots of work on Shibata's injured shoulder and leg with Fish throwing in some interesting switch-ups to go on offense like when he grabbed Shibata's leg out of a PK attempt in a flash. Just when it looks like Bobby has him Shibata unceremoniously grabs him by the hair, twists him around to face him, and shoot headbutts him with an echoing *CLONK*. Then he does the sleeper-to-PK and it's over like that. Eh. At least he busted himself open. There was also the expected no-selling of kicks while sitting on the floor and the expected you suplex me then I get up and suplex you Fighting Spirit horseshit that just needs to go away already. KUSHIDA/BUSHI: Well I'll be damned, I just saw an atomic drop in a Juniors match. Actually in 2017, no matter the match, that's different. BUSHI setting up a chair to dropkick the back of it into KUSHIDA's face is innovative too. Then he bonks Kushida's head on the mat twice while he has it in a leg triangle, haha. Bushi (I'm done capitalizing this shit) is all about the heel cheating which is pretty fitting as to his real life personality. Wow, Kushida heaves himself right over the top and blasts Bushi with a lariat at top speed, that looked sweet. Red Shoes gets blasted by a dropkick (oh if that only didn't happen more often) which allows for a misting and Naito interference. Elgin comes in and slams both Bushi and Naito at the same time. Ugh. It is amusing to see Elgin limp out in his gym clothes. Red Shoes' pathetic scene-stealing ass is still selling. The Canadian Destroyer seals it for me, fuck this match. Remember back when Yoshitsune (AKA Bushi) and Fujita Jr. Hayato had that barn-burner for the M-Pro belt back in like '08? Yeah, this ain't that. Fuck Bushi.

OSJ
The BUSHI / Kushida match was very entertaining right up to the ref bump. I realize that there has to be some sort of distraction so BUSHI can get the mist spot in, but everything went to hell in a handbasket after that spot. I have no problem with an Elgin run in or limp in or whatever it was, that's fine. We know he's a beast, that's obvious to anyone with the IQ of an eggplant. The double-slam was the most contrived thing I've seen since the Canadian Destroyer, also, we know Naito is a heel, that's obvious, but he's also booked strong as one of the toughest guys with or without his helpers, the Elgin beatdown of Naito was awful, chasing him off, okay, making him look totally weak, not okay. Could things get worse, is it possible that anyone in NJPW would be stupid enough to bust out a Canadian Destroyer? Not in my wildest dreams did I think such a thing possible. Shows what I know. Fuck BUSHI, and fuck Gedo if he's the one that booked this shit. This is an object lesson in how to take what was well on its way to being a **** match and drag it down to barely **.

Might as well do something productive while I'm busy drinking after work. The Canadian Destroyer is just as stupid as Bushi's finisher so I'm not surprised. Yeah, we need Liger and the crew to crowbar some of these guys. Hell, bring back Takaiwa! That'll teach 'em a lesson in violence.

Yes, but I don't see that as contradicting anything that I said. A double-slam works if it's done really quickly, and this, unfortunately was not. I don't know whether Elgin was out of position or Naito was slow getting back in, but it looked bloody awful. Also, I think the run off the heel's helper was overdone, making Naito looking weaker than was necessary to get the point across. The former came across to me as a major fuck-up, the latter is a minor quibble. Granted, BUSHI pretty much sucks, so my expectations shouldn't have been high, but I thought that the match was on track to be pretty damned good until the ref bump spot and then things just sort of seemed to fall apart. Ramo2653
@Curt McGirt I'd rather not die on my couch on a Saturday morning. This weeks episode was pretty good. Loved the Shibata/O'Riley match and they didn't even need to do the headbutt spot (although the tease was great). And Omega somehow got another good match out of Goto. Curt McGirt
I was on the phone the whole time and missed the replay so no review. O'Reilly looked pretty good from what I watched as I talked, though. Curt McGirt
TIGER MASK W/RED DEATH MASK: JR and Warmaster are incredulous. The latter says Red "looks like he got lost on the way to Mardi Gras" and the former says "can you imagine him trying to check into a hotel?" Ibushi doesn't look comfortable in the mask indeed and this truly looks like some weird cosplay shit. Who was/is Red again? I like Ibushi using both Sayama's kicks and using the Tiger Driver, which was sick -- he held Red up for a minute in a deadlift and then splattered him from on high. It was almost like a Last Ride version, which makes sense considering it's Ibushi. Overall though this was a nothing match. Great, we get KUSHIDA/BUSHI again next week. They better damn well pick up their sticks. OKADA/MARUFUJI: ^^^ Speaking of which. Maru's been A-OK by me recently so I've got my fingers crossed. Maybe he can actually make Okada lay it in? Okada's no-contact kick to the gut immediately tells me no. Man, his trunks look like an explosion in a casino's slot machine room. Errr, he makes me regret what I wrote by blasting Maru in the ear with a seated kick. Maru gives him the receipt by putting his face into the guardrail, his shoulder into the post, and kicks him around the opposite side of the post right in the eye. Okada isn't going to like this. Aaaaaand here come the chops, and bye-bye to Okada's chest capillaries. FIRST DOC REFERENCE OF THE SHOW! And for no reason at all really. Fuck I love Marufuji, he turns into Finlay and tries to bend his wrist the wrong way then stomps the elbow (right on the funny bone), then more chops. Then he just cravates his ass! He also tries to channel RVD taking a DDT and it fails horribly. Then he goes full NOAH and channels his mentor and PILEDRIVES OKADA ON THE APRON. Jeeeeezuuuuus. The sad thing is they should have had Maru throw his tired ass back in the ring instead of him rolling in, then give him more time after a pin attempt, but Okada is Superman and jumps back in the ring, takes some kicks and gets time with a flapjack. C'mon, it was a fucking piledriver on the apron. In moments we're back to it with Okada on offense running through his shit. Maru says fuck that and rolls into an insane Cobra Clutch + Triangle Choke that I can't recall ever seeing before. He's gotta have a name for that. They start the strike exchange but it works perfectly, nice and slow with Okada selling his ass off. He tries a Rainmaker and EATS a knee which was an awesome twist (heh) on that spot. Another one and Okada looks dead. The end is pretty sweet as he hits a crappy Rainmaker but gets kneed and kicked again, but manages to counter with a Tombstone, an Emerald Flowsion (YES) and another Rainmaker to win. It gives Misawa's move the death-move respect it deserves (and NOAH the respect they deserve). The story of the whole match was just Okada getting the shit kicked out of him ("he got beat like a government mule" - JR) the whole time and just managing to scratch out the win which is exactly how it should be IMO. Great match. Marufuji is the future Tenryu and that puts a big ol' grin on my face. Omega comes out after to set up the big ****** match and says he's gonna treat Okada like a bitch just like they did in America haha. Doesn't look like he cared for that too much. If you like watching Okada eat flaming hot death watch the main event. So, watch the main event.

Curt McGirt
ROPPONGI VICE VS. TAIJI ISHIMORI/ACH: I've never seen Ishimori, and ACH only maybe once or twice on ROH TV. This is clipped to hell and is basically a collection of comedy and highspots. Trent and Rocky seem to be the Fashion Police of NJPW. That is actually a huge compliment, and not a backhanded one either. SHIBATA/EVIL: Very good, suspenseful start here with EVIL almost losing the top of his head to a kick. Of course, Shibata doesn't care. Warmaster says that he's one of those guys that takes the hardest road possible... yeah, no shit Sherlock, just look where he's at now. EVIL surprisingly is saying "fuck you" and giving as good as he's getting. He's just pasting Shibata and it's surprising to see him match that. Shibata hits him with the hardest possible slap/forearm and nukes him with a sleeper suplex but EVIL says "you DICK!" and tosses the ref and tries to cripple Shibata earlier than he already was. He wins the NEVER title after the nasty work with the chairs, then says he sent Shibata down to the bowels of Hell. I am officially on board with EVIL now, fake scythe or no. Anyone that will bring it right back to Shibata full-on deserves the title. He also kind of reminds me of Mr. Gannosuke for some reason. KUSHIDA/BUSHI: Kushida jumps Bushi and the crowd boos? I am perplexed. Where is this at again, Philly? At least they boo Bushi when he chokes Kushida with his shirt. Oh my lands this match starts building. Great selling and each counter is just nasty, Kushida does a mean avalanche something into a cross-armbreaker and Bushi hits an INSANE 1000 MPH full-force tope suicida after recovering from that. I just had to stop typing. This match is awesome and so amazing in comparison to the turd they laid in the ring last time. Kushida puts on the gnarliest looking wristlock after trying the Hoverboard and the ref just jumps in and says "it's over". Then, to make all this even better, Kamaitaichi comes out with one of THE SICKEST PUNK JACKETS OF ALL TIME. He's got the full Police Story "Make me come, faggot!" Black Flag image painted on one sleeve and the Negative Approach logo on the other. It's so, so dope. The match between him and Kushida is gonna be fantastic. This was a surprisingly great episode, check it out.
Ramo2653
LOL at JR calling the IWGP IC title one of the most historic titles in wrestling history. Thankfully Barnett cleaned it up for him. Regarding the matches, the flow seemed off in the Tanahashi/Sanada match. For Naito/Lethal, it was ok, Lethal had a neat transition into the crossface. The Lethal Injection is still silly.
