NHL - November 2014

RJ called the first period and it seemed like we were inspired tonight. So great to hear him calling Sabres goals.

Was at Avs-Devils and we had an entertaining first because it was two shit teams creating opportunities. As the game wore on each team's shittiness overwhelmed everything and the game got worse and worse. The goal the Avs tied it on was vintage Bad Cory right through the five hole.

So the Blues have won 11 of there last 12, both of our goaltenders have been outstanding, the STL line had been outstanding, Shattenkirk has played about perfectly in his role and Gunnarson has been a fantastic compliment to him, and generally things are going really well in spite of our top pairing playing below expectations and that Stasnty hasn't played well yet coming off injury.

Please please keep going well.

Couple polar-opposite games from Detroit over the weekend:

Red Wings vs Blackhawks - Total domination from Detroit.  Easily their best game of the year with everything clicking.  A shockingly one-sided game.

Red Wings vs Canadiens - Ugh.  Detroit was flat from start to finish, looking a step slow throughout.  They had a NHLPA-mandated day off of Saturday and played as if the entire team spent a very long evening at Goose Loonies Saturday night.  Some fluky goals - the one that bounced off Kyle Quincey's, ahem, upper inner thigh, took a left turn and bounced down and into the net - but there was just no effort on Detroit's part.  Babcock continues his mystifying (non-) use of Gus Nyquist, relegating him to little or no power play time for no apparent reason.  Babock DID do something I've never seen before, certainly never in the regular season - he pulled the goalie down 4-1 with over 4 minutes to play.  It didn't work ;)

Well considering the Penguins franchise has gone bankrupt a couple of times and almost moved a bunch of times to Edmonton, Hamilton twice etc. only to be brought back from the dead by the good fortune of getting Lemieux and Crosby.  Poor Pascal Dupuis must be paying some sort of cosmic debt to the hockey gods

One of these days I'm going to compile the statistics about how many times the Panthers have given up the game tying or game winning goal in the last minute of the 3rd or OT over the last decade. It seems like a ridiculous amount at this point.

Who would be the guys he keeps to build around?

Also, the Calgary Flames have the most goals among Western Conference teams and Vancouver is 2nd.

They really need to trade Lecavalier who is the anchor weighing down the team.  Once he goes the top three lines would be

Raffl-Giroux-Voracek

Schenn-Bellemare-Simmonds

Umberger-Couturier-Read

Bellemare has shown some real chemistry on the second line in his limited time there but they have to showcase Vinny to trade him.

On defense Del Zotto has been good when not paired with Schenn.  Together they are a dumpster fire but apart have played well enough.  There are a few defensemen with one year left so they will be attractive at the deadline.

The goaltenders are scrap but Vinny is the guy that just drags the entire roster down.
