They are going to need to win those games to be in the CFP picture. If they beat Bama, that will put them above the Tide. So it's immaterial if they are ranked #5 this week. The #1 ranked tennis player can lose a tournament and still be ranked #1 the following week. Why? Because it's based on what he or she has done all year. Oklahoma State. Clemson. NC State for a bit. I don't know that that means what it did last year when they were winning every game by 30 or 40. You know who else ND played close? North Carolina.
