AxB Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Doesn't matter. They'll be saying it in French, Dutch and German, and it's easy to pretend you don't speak any of those.
Death From Above Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Things are rounding into form ahead of the tournament in the chatter I have seen around. All the routine points are there. - False hope among England fans - "The only thing that can stop France is France themselves, what are the odds that happens again" - Team that wasn't going to win anyway has their excuse now - Debating Spain's defense as if they will ever touch the ball, win or lose - "(Insert player here) isn't really a central forward so I'm sure Germany will not score" - Italy is old go figure It's all going to be great. I'm picking France to win at home, but who knows really. Quite a few good options.
ReiseReise Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 I would name France and Spain as the favourites if I had to. England looks like they´re back on track aswell. Germany is always a possibility to make the final four, but I´m truly lacking confidence. Truth is our worst games were test matches, but we didn´t look good in the qualifiers. Granted, we weren´t the only ones, but we seemed so uninspired and saturated since winning Brazil 2014. Plus the usual habit for Germany is to get into a slump after a World Championship so I wouldn´t be surprised if we´d get eliminated in the quarterfinals or even earlier.
Jiji Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Gotsta go with France. That is a team that could be great for a decade with all the young talent they've produced. I mean, the same can be said for the Belgians but...
AxB Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Well, on paper France had a great team going into the 2010 World Cup as well, and that didn't go too well for them. Leaving Benzema at home in an attempt to help team unity might backfire spectacularly (although bringing him anyway would probably have backfired too).
Death From Above Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 I'd worry abut Switzerland as a banana peel but they don't really have a top striker, Shaqiri (all muscly four feet of him) getting a hat trick at the last world cup was nice but not something I see him repeating from midfield.
ReiseReise Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 After 2014, Marco Reus misses out on his second major tournament in a row due to injury. Poor lad.
ReiseReise Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Germany news: Jonathan Tah replaces Antonio Rüdiger who is out with a torn ACL. Another poor lad. I think only France has been convincing in friendlies considering the favourites. Hard to call, this EURO 2016.

Robert S Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 English football fans are on a 1998-Marseille-memorial-festival, second night with violence including England supporters.
odessasteps Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 The way i heard it, fans were attacked in a pub today by some French? Group.
AxB Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Some England fans were drinking in a bar. Some French fans turned up for 'banter'. So the England fans returned the 'banter'. And the French cops decided to go all tear gas and riot shields right away.
texanspaniard Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 That was a really good opener for the tournament. Quite the goal by Payet to win it for France. Super excited for this tournament!
Death From Above Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Couldn't see the second half because of a prior commitment and seems like I missed most of the fun. A lot of nerves in the first half but that is to be expected, really.

Admittedly, i read all this in my timeline after the fact.
ReiseReise Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Football is great. It took nothing short of a wonder-strike to make the crowd turn 180 degrees from jeering and whistling to go "alèz les bleues". I only saw the goals and minutes 10 to 45. Those minutes looked like a typical campaign opener for a favourited team against a strong and valiantly defending team. Lots of shaky stuff, not too many chances and lots of easy turnovers on both ends. Goal from Payet was wonderful and could be quite catalyst for the French campaign.
Roman Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Payet was superb from start to finish. That goal was the perfect reward for an excellent performance. What's the reason the French hate Giroud, though? (Well, until he scored, of course, because chauvinism.) Five minutes in and Switzerland's already ahead. Not a big surprise, really.
RIPPA Posted June 11, 2016 Author Posted June 11, 2016 Albania is looking for the power button so they can rage quit
texanspaniard Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 I believe a lot of the supporter disapproval directed at Giroud is because he was picked over Benzema for a place in the squad.
Roman Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Let's go, Wales! I hope you brought your awesome, awesome fans with you! (Judging by everyone singing along to the national anthem, that seems to be the case... Fucking hell. Goosebumps. Actual goosebumps at such passionate singing.)
odessasteps Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 I dont think espn can go more than 2 minutes when talking about Boudreaux without bringing up wine.
