This Week In NFL Stupidity

My point is she put hands on him and we laugh. It wasn't condemned. If she would've somehow managed to hurt him, we still wouldn't condemn her, instead we'd laugh at Jay for taking an "L" and the snl skits would've still continued.

If there's one positive to come out of this sad situation - besides Ray Rice having his career nuked - it's that everybody is finally seeing Goodell for what he really is. And it'll only get better if/when this supposed "evidence" that the league saw the whole video comes out. Bettman gets a lot of shit for being the worst commissioner in sports - most of it entirely deserved - but there is no conceivable way he is worse than Goodell. One is simply inept, the other is actively corrupt.

Have some sympathy for Goodell man. Tags rode the glory wave, then handed off to him like, "Here ya go Rog, oh btw, it seems people have suddenly realized that 'professional football player' is a dangerous profession, and would like us to wave some sort of magic wand that makes the game less so while somehow not watering it down into a game of two-hand touch. You're gonna have to suspend defensive players for the kind of hits that were afterthoughts to Butkus or Lambert or Concrete Charlie. Oh, and apparently someone finally figured out that one of our teams has a racial slur for a nickname. Well, good luck with that..."

Dude, do you know how many times I heard people saying "Beyoncé's sister is fucking crazy!". She didn't come out of that situation looking good, I'll tell you that. Also, I don't think now is the time to be having this kind of discussion, really. I mean, we're talking about a scumbag who KO'd his wife and then dragged her around a dirty lobby. There is no self-defense discussion to be had. Nobody is saying that it's okay for females to strike males, etc.   I'm not sure who you are arguing with, that person isn't here..

I am 6'2" and about 250.  I wrestle. (Well, I brawl and whatnot ;) )  And I'm nowhere NEAR the athlete an NFL running back is....nowhere remotely close.  I cannot comprehend any situation, short of a woman attempting to stab me with a knife, coming at me with a gun, or her being the size and badassery of Brock Lesnar, where I would ever full swing to defend myself.  If a 100 pound woman is in my face and even hitting me, I'm preeettttttyyy sure I could cover up with my arms, or hold her at arm's length away or turn away for the minute it might take before the elevator doors opened and I could get away from her.

Hell, at my size, I wouldn't even full swing at a small man doing the same thing to me in that situation because I have no desire to hurt anyone unless my life is in danger.

Yeah, Jay Z didn't resort to violence and the worst was some ribbing on Saturday Night Live.  Maybe a mild bruise.  Oh, the horror.  And everyone thinks she's fucking nuts now.

Ray Rice knocked his fiancee out and almost killed her with the way her head hit.  Then he dragged her lifeless body out of an elevator.

Obvious differences are obvious.

Guess you guys missed the post where I said I'm not defending Rice. And I was replying to posts, homey. Point was, people should stay in their lane. Not everyone is chivalrous and willing to turn the other cheek. Rice blew it and now he will(rightfully so) lose the privilege of making huge money for playing sports because he didn't know how to play "the game".

Having watched the Fox & Friends clip, I'd say the message is "Don't let stupid people ad-lib."

I like Fox News often, but Brian Kilmeade really should never be on the fucking air. This isn't the first incident he's had. Probably won't be the last. I swear, "Fox & Friends" is where most anti-Fox News people get their ammunitiion because it's a total shitshow.

TMZ says they have proof that the NFL knew about the video and will release it tomorrow

Well, everyone KNEW about the video.  Whether they SAW the video or had access to it is another story.

No whether the WANTED to see the video is the story. If the NFL knew it existed, and it can be proven, that might be enough ammo to force out Goodell. There have been three owners who have left/died in the off-season, and Bud Adams the year before that.  Who knows how that might effect his future as well.  . .. .

They never refuted the story that they had seen the video and that's why the suspension was light.  They let that stay out there so people could speculate about what happened and fabricate defenses for the light suspension.  It's only now that they're claiming that was wrong...

Lost in all of this is that Janay Rice is probably in a shitload more danger than she was before. Going by that tape, he was already a violent nutcase with a callous disregard for her life before all this went down...and now he's a violent nutcase who likely blames her for ruining his career and costing him millions of dollars.

And is going to be around the house a lot more.

Well that gets into a whole 'nother debate that DVDVR probably doesn't want to get into.  She has hands, the door has knobs.... so you get into the 'why do people stay in abusive relationships' thing which is a different debate then discussing how it impacts Rice and the NFL.

Yeah, but if the cops and NFL had done the right thing in the first place he'd likely be in jail right now...which would have made it easier to get the fuck out of there and go to a safe house or something. I wouldn't entirely say the NFL are blameless in her situation so it's not an entirely different discussion.

Getting her to announce on her air that it was partly her fault (maybe even reinforcing her beliefs and validating his warped values) was also pretty fucked up.

I would think that if evidence emerges that the NFL saw the tape(from where I don't know), that Ray Rice has a grievance through the NFLPA. The only reason his suspension was raised was because of public reaction? I can't see that squaring with the CBA. He still is a piece of shit, and deserves to take a LONG unpaid vacation from the league(if he ever gets back), but he has rights as a player.  Also what the RAVENS know and when did they know it? This is going to get uglier before it gets better.

Yea his career is probably over.  It was just too visible of a crime.  Have people done worse and still played later?  Sure, but with how visible the NFL is now and this just being a crime that so many people feel strongly about, I can't see a team taking a chance at a PR disaster to even talk about signing him.

...you seriously think the PA is gonna touch this thing with a 10 foot pole?

I think they're implying that if the NFL wanted to see the video, they could have seen the video.

Seriously, this all took place in a casino. Anyone that's been in a casino knows that there's a camera about every 18 inches or so. (Maybe slightly exaggerated, but there's a hell of a lot of cameras in there, up to and including in the elevators.)

Legally, they'd kinda have to.
