This Week In NFL Stupidity

Prolly. I am just hearing about this dumpster fire a few minutes ago as I was at work all day. Apparently Rice was upset that this shit was released. Honestly, who can be surprised an attacker is mad that he got caught.

Silver being the NFL commish would be too good to be too. So many lost dollars because he doesn't bend like Goddell.

"Mutual combat" is kind of ridiculous when you're a big NFL guy and the woman is literally half your size. The man spends his days getting thrown around by huge 200 or 300 pound guys but can't control himself when faced with an 110 pound woman?

I understand she was backing up his versions of events, but anyone could look at this situation, especially the medical notes on her injuries, and see it stunk to high heaven. That TMZ managed to get the footage before they did is also bad. You're telling me they couldn't have sought it out?

I think they were willfully ignorant and essentially knew the truth, but figured they had plausible deniability.

Adam Silver for NFL Commish!

Half the damn league, including non-players, would have their heads on Silver's wall. Totally worth it.

So, those people who said wait and see when the first video came out are eating some serious shit now, and they should.

Don't think so. Different animal. If Silver tried to exercise NBA Commish-level power in the NFL the owners would have Silver's head on their collective walls pretty quickly.

That's not necessarily a bad thing either. Silver's been good so far in a limited sample, but the way Stern handled that power was often unpleasant, to say the least.

They may have suspected something but you can't 'convict' someone on a suspicion.  I mean this isn't the middle ages.  I think everyone suspected the story being sold by Rice, his wife, and the lawyers wasn't accurate but I mean you can't fire someone because you think they did something.  I'm sure they closed their eyes and hoped it would all just go away, but luckily TMZ did whatever they had to do to get the video (pay for it) and now there are no more unanswered questions about the incident.  Goodell will get some well-deserved shit since they really didn't do enough to get the video, policies will change, and in a few years we will see if the changes were permanent or just something they did to appease angry fans/endorsers.

TMZ says they have proof that the NFL knew about the video and will release it tomorrow

We know that the NFL knew about the video because every casino elevator has cameras.  How can there not be footage?

It is not that hard of a stretch to try and bury the video which I think they did up until today.

The real question is who knew and when?

As for Silver, he is sweeping stuff under the rug as well.

Yeah the big story isn't whether they knew about video it is what they did when they found out about it.   To be honest I am not sure what is worse

1.  Knowing about the video, lying that you have no knowledge,  and hoping that nobody else knows about it

2.  Knowing about the video and doing nothing about it.

Both of them are grounds for getting him rid of him.

I thought it was funny how Ray Lewis is trying to distant himself from Rice considered he always talked about him like a little brother.  Plus that every time they talk about the Ravens and Ray Rice they talk about the guy who knows who buried the bodies in Miami

Well, if reporters filed requests to see the video and were denied, the league obv knew about its existence.

The unfahomable part is how with all their law enforcement connections, they did not get a copy unless they were told not to get one for plausible deniability.

Get your screenshots while it's good.

Just fucking amazing and awful.

Except for a handful of tweets, he has some valid, albeit crude points..

So are you condoning "she started it so this was her fault", "judging people for being awful is wrong", or "The NFL should punish people not in the NFL for the shit we take"? Those are pretty much his only points on this topic. And all of them are fucking embarrassing.

If there's one positive to come out of this sad situation - besides Ray Rice having his career nuked - it's that everybody is finally seeing Goodell for what he really is. And it'll only get better if/when this supposed "evidence" that the league saw the whole video comes out. Bettman gets a lot of shit for being the worst commissioner in sports - most of it entirely deserved - but there is no conceivable way he is worse than Goodell. One is simply inept, the other is actively corrupt.

"She hit him first."

"He wore a hoodie and looked suspicious"

"It was her fault for taking pics on her phone when she knew it could get out."

"Well he shouldn't have resisted arrest."

"She shouldn't have been wearing that outfit if she didn't want male attention."

People have become so obsessed with the "two sides to everything" thing they've forgotten to put the blame on, you know, the people that actually commit these hideous crimes.

Of course I'm not condoning shit.  His point about these ladies putting hands on these guys and expressing outrage when he strikes back is true.  Are you familiar with jock chasers and "the Life"?  These ladies know their not dealing with rocket scientist, and alot of them make their man's success about them and how they can maintain their lifestyle. Unfortunately, some of these dumb-asses fall into the trap and react.  I'll never condone or back Rice for this, but while his wife doesn't deserve to vilified or faulted, I won't think just think of her as a poor helpless victim.  Bottom line is people, man or woman, shouldn't be putting hands on each other in anger.

A guy twice her size can't hit a woman. Hold her and try and restrain her? Sure. But he cannot knock her out if she hits him. It's like a kid stomping on your foot and turning around and taking a baseball bat to him.

A double standard? Maybe. But considering all the inequities and injustices in the world some guy going "What do you mean I can't smack around a woman if she feebly slaps me in an elevator in a heated argument?" isn't going to get much sympathy from me.

It's a fucked up double standard. You know what happened when Solange attacked Jay-Z in the elevator? The world laughed and made memes about it, and now this is an outrage? I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy...

If Solange had knocked Jay Z unconscious and almost killed him, then not given a shit afterwards, it would have been met with disgust.

Instead he walked away with barely a scratch. And he was clearly never in any danger whatsoever. It's entirely different from this situation than this.
