MLB 2014: SEPTEMBER

I'm amazed how seldom managers walk the force runner on in that situation.  Unless there's someone batting behind him that's scarier, I can't see the downside.

Wasn't there a playoff series a few years back that ended on a walkoff single where they had runners at 2nd and 3rd and one out in a tie game.  And I couldn't understand why they didn't walk the next guy to set up at least a force at home.  It didn't end up mattering because of the hit, although the infielders were all in because they needed to go home for a tag play.

The second one is a whole different situation since there's already a runner on third.  I have no idea why managers don't walk guys in that situation either.  Drives me nuts.

But you don't walk a guy hitting .200 with one out and a guy on 2nd.  That's just bad baseball - you know, not "The Cardinal Way". :)

Jeter's career WAR is the same as Scott Rolen. Derek is better but how much better? I'm not sure why this where does he rank thing is even a discussion. It's like asking where does Reggie Miller rank all time..

I know its ESPN being ESPN, but still that anyone could think that Jeter is among the best players of all time(probably not in the top 100), is saddening. . .

I have nothing against Jeter personally, and I don't really mind the retirement tour.

But if some guy had virtually the exact same 20 year career playing for, say, Cleveland...  Nobody would be calling him "one of the greatest players of all-time."  (Also, I'd hate him a lot more...)

I get what you're saying, but if Jeter brought five World Series titles to the Indians, I'm pretty sure Jeets would be ruling Ohio like some sort of dystopian Conan the Barbarian/King Arthur hybrid by now. It would be it's own nation, and there would be at least one photo of Jeter giving Michelle Obama a gift basket as part of a diplomatic mission.

While I'm glad that jackass Kirk Gibson got pink slipped, why oh why couldn't they wait until after the season? At least with Gibson and his macho bullshit, the Diamondbacks would play these last three games against the Cardinals like their lives depended on it. After watching tonight's effort, now I fear they're just going to roll over and die.

Man, even in retirement from managing and working for another team, Tony LaRussa finds a way to fuck over the Pirates.

Please.  Apparently Bryan Pryce called Mike Matheny to apologize for how shitty the lineup he is playing against Pittsburgh for these three games...because whatever is left of the Reds is literally so bad that he assumed everyone would think he was just trying to fuck the Cardinals over.

Dude, quit taking teams that have nothing to do with this and assigning obscure motivations to Tony LaRussa.

He obviously fired Gibson as revenge for 1988.
