RIPPA
Hughes just didn't want to look money-grubbing, I imagine. The Twins should give him the bonus anyway. Hughes said he would turn it down if the Twins just offered to give him the money because "it would set a bad precedent" (his words) The popular movement now is for the Twins to give the money to a charity (perferably one of Hughes choosing)

Nice Guy Eddie
The perfect ending would have been going out with another championship, but this was as good as it could have been without a championship.
Zakk_Sabbath
Easily one of the most emotional moments i've ever had watching sports-- it would have been nice to go out with a ring but God damn-- not everyone gets the Bettis finish. It's no exxaggetation-- I can't rememeber a time before Jeter-- i might be 26 but childhood just ended tonight officially

Pete
The first retirement tour i remember was Kareem. Lots of rocking chairs. Didn't Julius Erving get a retirement tour? Or am I extrapolating that MSG deal into a full-blown tour? EDIT: He did indeed get a full tour.

Tabe
Would Jeter normally have been walked in that spot to increase the chances of a force out? No. You don't walk a guy hitting .200. There's already one out so no need to walk somebody to create a double play situation. You figure Jeter either strikes out, grounds out or flies out - none of which will advance the runner (unless he hits a bomb to center or something). Even if the runner advances, there's 2 outs so sacrifice fly not an issue. And, finally, they'd already sacrificed the guy to second (insert Tabe rant about how this is the worst play in baseball).
piranesi
I'm amazed how seldom managers walk the force runner on in that situation. Unless there's someone batting behind him that's scarier, I can't see the downside. Wasn't there a playoff series a few years back that ended on a walkoff single where they had runners at 2nd and 3rd and one out in a tie game. And I couldn't understand why they didn't walk the next guy to set up at least a force at home. It didn't end up mattering because of the hit, although the infielders were all in because they needed to go home for a tag play.
