DC Comics omnibus thread

I get the sense of what they're trying to do with Lex right now, which, to me, seems like it'll be some sort of quasi-Randian "evil/selfishness/devastation is the only salvation in a world where justice is a false premise"  thing, but they're way too cute with the "INJUSTICE GANG/LEGION" stuff. It seems way too hamfisted, which would be fine if it was just Lex doing it, but Savage not shutting up against how he'd formed an Injustice Gang with a bunch of super neanderthals was pretty weak in execution. I think Snyder writes J'onn pretty well though, which is good because he's basically carrying the book.

I can't remember if it was under Kelly's run or not but I liked the idea of when the Big 7 left to find Plastic Man, they left Nigtwing in charge. It was up there with Wally and Kyle graduating to the upper part of the DCU, but then afterwards DiDio went on his attempts to kill him

I thought doing Year One in Absolute format was crazy, but they're topping (lowering it) later this year with Killing Joke. Doing the same thing they did with Year One and printing the whole story twice, with the original and new coloring, plus the handful of bonus features from the Deluxe Edition, and the full script to bulk it up... We're still talking about a 48 page story getting an Absolute. At least it's only 50 bucks.

Not gonna lie, I'm super jazzed about it but a lot of it comes down to thinking Bolland's art will look beautiful at that scale. Incidentally it also has the other Batman stories Bolland drew and some backmatter.

No doubt it'll look great. But I already have all that other Bolland Batman work in the deluxe edition that I got for less than $11.

Now if they'd done an Absolute DC Universe Stories of Alan Moore...

Pretty sure that the Kelly/Mahnke run.

Tower of Babel was a great idea for a story. Makes you wonder how old Waid had been sitting on it.

Tower of Babel would probably make my top twenty Batman stories.

Yeah, I never got the Deluxe Edition. Still working on an old paperback printing (9th or 10th or something) and I didn't like the Deluxe Edition enough to drop $23 on it ($11 is a steal, but obviously not the SRP). Really in terms of value in the market (rather than personal need) it comes down to whether you think having both editions plus the back matter in Absolute format rather than the Deluxe is worth an extra $27. Personally, I think it is (and will be grabbing it as such) but if you already have the original colouring in one form or another as well as the Deluxe HC take then unless you're collecting Absolutes or somesuch I can get why you wouldn't be hot for it.

Geoff Johns Steps Out C.C.O DC Comics, Jim Lee Steps In

John will write the upcoming Shazam book and the 3 Jokers story. And produce his own line with lesser known DC characters for new titles. And still have a hand in making movies.

I'm super into the idea of a dedicated line for more minor characters and while I'm not sure I want it written by Johns, if it's Young Animal style curated by him that could work.

Bleeding Cool says this is either a by choice thing where he wanted to do more writing, less paperwork or this is a corporate firing in which he gets a pile of projects to throw of the scent then nothing when they all wrap. Guess we'll find out in a year or so.

I would guess a combo of the two since its no secret Johns would rather be writing anyways.

The Sanctuary stuff is innately disappointing. While most "What if this was in the real world?" concepts for DC are absolutely terrible, the idea of heroes dealing with levels of trauma could have been a good timely, character-driven story. It turns out they're introducing the concept to kill a bunch of C-listers and do a murder mystery instead.

Playing to their strengths ?

I was never too fond of the Burnside costume, and I'm not really digging the latest redesign either.

Yeah, Mr. Murphy can go screw.  His Thrillkiller knockoff costume might be the best thing he's done recently, and that is the *faintest* of praise.

What is wrong with Murphy?

I like Murphy a lot, but honestly the best reason I can think of to take her out of the Burnside costume is that artists who aren't Babs Tarr seem to have trouble drawing it well. I don't really think Murphy's design will look good when drawn by anyone but Murphy so we aren't exactly better off for the change.

*This will be all I say about Sean Murphy and his politics*  The dude does a comic called White Knight that he championed being on the DC "Adult" label just so he could share his Sub-Deviant Art quality Harley Quinn porn.  His Batgirl costume for that series also has garters for some reason.  Plus he champions Ethan Van Sciver and his alt-right views.
