DC Comics omnibus thread

We need an all purpose comics industry news thread, but I didn't want this to kick it off.

Gerard Jones arrested for child pornography and attempting to solicit a minor.

Aside from being obviously awful, gotta wonder if it makes DC reconsider those Justice League/Green Lantern trades they had lined up from Jones run.

This is also gonna be a bigger bridge than most in the eternal debate of when and how to seperate an artist from their work, and if that's even possible.

Oh man, that's so fucked up.  Especially the fact that he apparently uploaded his shit to Youtube. How dumb do you have to be?

I hope that someone reputable will pick up the theses he put forth in Killing Monsters and write a new work on it, because anything he's ever said or done regarding child psych is obviously discredited if these bear fruit (and it sounds like they're likely to).

Finally read Batman: The Black Mirror. The first story with the Dealer didn't do much for me, but I pretty much loved everything involving James Jr. and including how the other stories tied back into his story. I really like how they built things keeping that possibility that he just may have actually turned a new leaf until that conversation with Dick. I also dug him playing with the expectations of why he was there. It was also nice getting to read from Jim's perspective at times along with seeing him converse with Dick. Honestly, this really makes me disappointed Dick isn't still Batman. Feels like there was much more to explore with Dick in the lead from the changing relationships to the new characters introduced. Anyways great story overall. Don't know if its my favorite Snyder Batman story, but its up there.

Glad you've finally read Batman: The Black Mirror. It's still Scott Snyder's best Batman story and one of the best in the history of Batman. I miss Dick Grayson's Batman. Least we have the Dick as Bats books by Grant Morrison and Snyder.

So will I be lost if I just jump into the Lantern Rebirth books, or should I read the stuff from before Rebirth? My brother was collecting them for a while, but had to drop them eventually for financial reasons so the last thing I was reading about was the beginning of some plot involving the Durlans.

Hal Jordan seems pretty tangled in all the pre-Rebirth GL book plots but Green Lanterns is pretty standalone. Having read Jessica Cruz' stuff in Justice League will help but it tells you everything you *need* to know as you go.

Also can Josh Williamson just take the event lead from Johns at DC? Because JL vs. Suicide Squad feels like the best parts of a Johns event without most of the weaknesses.

Good to know. I put a hold on Green Lanterns at the library so hopefully it will be available soon. I actually did read the rest of Johns's JL run so I should be fine if its tied mostly with that. Would you say the Hal Jordan book is worth checking out? And what did you think of the stuff happening the last year or two before Rebirth?

Only checked in periodically pre Rebirth. What I read was good-not-great. The Relic stuff kinda made the whole GL concept grimmer and Godhead was...fine? Tried too hard to be epic. The couple issues I checked out of Renegade Hal were solid too.

Hal Jordan from what I've read is on par with the other Vendetti stuff. Worth reading but not going out of your way for.

Then perhaps I will hold off. I was never fond of Venditti and co. need to more or less break down much of what Johns built and hinted to for the future. Going even darker after Johns was one of the dumbest directions they could go.

How has Abnett's Aquaman been?

Honestly? Just check out GLs. Not connected to Hal Jordan at all so far and really really good. Feels more like Johns but less dark.

Oh I'm still checking out GLs. I like Baz and am curious to see how Cruz is sans Volthoom influence. I'm just holding off on the Hal book.

Great article on an intriguing new character, really enjoying Tynion's run on Detective thus far and eager for the new Batwoman series in February.

Thank you for the reminder, friend. I'll try the Batwoman: Rebirth one-shot and Batwoman #1.

The use of 'deadname' is a major tip but that's a relatively new term, mostly used by a lot of the younger trans community folks I know. The character is great and it's good to see more representation.

In a different bent, they resolved the 'Catwoman killed 237 people' plot in a way that somehow seems like a bigger crap on the character than if she'd just done that.

She trained Holly in secret, when the orphanage thing happened Holly snapped and murdered them all, then nearly kills Batman when she gets the drop on him because he doesn't expect her to have training and she stabs him in the neck before bailing to Kahndaq.

Just totally butchered Holly's character in a way that makes her basically unuseable in the current iteration now. Disappointing.

The issue does have a cute bit where Bat/Cat disagree over whether they first met in the events of Batman #1 or Year One complete with appropriately styled art so that was fun at least.

According to Webster's Dictionary, it can mean either twice a month or once every two months, depending on context.

I'd explain further, but I have to go try to rid the internet of people who put the apostrophe in "its" to indicate possession.
