MLB 2014: AUGUST

RIPPA

They're the Ricketts. They don't care.

Man, if Baez can figure how to not strike out as much, he's going to be really deadly. It seems like most of his hits are homers.

And if Adam Dunn cut down on the strikeouts, he'd be one of the greatest players ever.

It's best for Baez that he's going through these growing pains in the majors - he had nothing left to prove in the minors. With him doing his thing and Alcantara showing himself to be an above average glove at worst, at least the Cubs have SOMETHING cooking.

40% strikeout rate has to be a major concern. He does hit .333 when he actually puts the ball in play. If he can get it down to 28% or so...

FWIW, Baez has struggled like this at every. single. level. and then he suddenly turns the corner and figures it out. The theory among Cubs fans is that Theo and Jed brought up Baez now to get through the growing pains this season, since it is a lost season, to fucking destroy next season when he has things figured out.

And what's amazing the most about Baez at this young stage is that, as far as I know, all of his homers are no doubters. All but one I believe have left the park at Wrigley Field, and the one he hit yesterday was off of a 96 mph fastball that went to the opposite field.

Funny. Two pitchers from the Orioles that now play for the Cubs (Arrieta and Wada) totally picked them a part in this series, with Wada tossing a one-hitter. The sweep is over and now the Yankees are well within reach.

I'm hoping the Cubs create even more havoc within their division with the upcoming series against the Reds, Brewers and Cards.

All Jorge Soler discussion will need to be moved here until further notice.

Cubs lineup is looking alarmingly MLB level now. Couglan/Alcantara/Soler OF with a Valbeuna/Castro/Baez/Rizzo infield.

Expectations for Soler are much higher then Baez short term in terms of complete bat, though he's probably not as solid as Baez has been on D. Probably has the best hit tool of any Cubs prospect, though Schwarber/McKinny/Russell would like a say in that statement.
