MGFanJay Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Roman-Barrett was Roman's best singles match to date and his squashing of 3MB was glorious - not quite company-leaving worthy though. I would've brought back the barricade spear for that. Jey-Rowan was way too quick to mean anything. BO DANCING TO TRUTH'S THEME was amazing. JBL referencing "Gettin Jiggy Wit It" was amusing - I can't wait until 2020 when references Soulja Boy. The whole match was a blast, and Bo is adding a lot of little touches to the act, like arm pumps and wacky phrases to make it work even more. After getting zero hype until the guys walked backstage, they made up for Cesaro-Sheamus with the Heyman-Cesaro pre-match hype. I loved Heyman explaining the whole story behind the tape, and it played so perfectly into everything that it made me wish they either saved it for the PPV or at least a well-hyped Raw match if such a thing exists anymore. Sheamus-Cesaro was the best match on SD all year and even better than their PPV match. It played off that marvelously, and did enough new stuff to feel different. This was a must-watch and an easy contender for best TV match of the year. So sad they muted Summer calling Layla a twat on Main Event. Summer Rae in black leather is fine by me. I loved Big E turning the Swagger bomb into a counter for the Big Ending - hopefully he makes it a counter-finisher more often. Lana's ass is always nice to see. Aksana-Fox wasn't good, but fun to watch due to Aksana's terrible offense. Loved Bray busting out an apron uranage for an act break move. Bray-Ambrose wound up being Dean's best singles match to date. He was so damn great as Ricky Morton here - even falling upon just trying to put weight on the injured arm. Seth being part of the finish worked to further their story, but hurt the match a bit since it really should've been a DQ or no contest. Still, this match was a blast! The whole show was fun. http://jayreviewsthings.blogspot.com/2014/06/wwe-sd-6-13-14.html Screens - Ambrose is prepping for his MIB audition HHH HAS SOME BAD NEWS FOR YA! http://www.imagebam.com/gallery/068y3cffv9le9e8qblrws04839lpi5tj
Curt McGirt Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 I'm coming in cold on this one so there are some high hopes. Wade/Reigns was pretty good and starts out with the theme of the night: two guys beating the hell out of each other. The 3MB run-in only to get crushed was pretty cold to Jinder and McEntyre. We now know why Heath still has a job, and that is because he will take the biggest bumps of all three. Remember when they just had him get destroyed by the Legends every week? Taking that flying spear probably hurt worse than when Vader powerbombed him. Whenever Vince gets mad he can just truck out Heath to get beaten on. Truth/Dallas wasn't bad either with Truth getting a lot of offense (and shucking and jiving) in including a sit-out gourdbuster which will always make me happy. Bo getting the reverse-psychology cheap heat and later saying "he was attacking me!" to the ref were more good ad-libs from him. Still not buying that finish though. And then we come to my favorite endless WWE match, Sheamus/Cesaro. Heyman over-embellishing every curt German comment was of course great and then the match kicks in... Hoo boy. He wasn't kidding about the taped fists. Those crossfaces were fucking nasty which is underlined by the great shot of Sheamus having this expression on his face like "what the hell do I have to do to beat this guy" while the announcers mention his eye is swelling up. THAT finish was perfect. It's like Cesaro decided to channel Finlay with the crossfaces and then Eddy with the finish. CHEAT TO WIN~! Apparently Summer did call Layla a twat or something cause they censored it. Still unhappy about the implants but Layla still rules. The Rose is off the bloom already (har har). I guess they are building up to another Battle of the Midcard Hosses by Lana coming out to interfere in the Swagger/Big E match. Jack towers over both men in height which is gonna be hilarious at some point. Both guys took some big bumps in the space of like five minutes and we get another inspired finish with the Swagger Bomb -> Big Ending. Short and sweet and Dirty Yosemite Sam yelling at a Russian oligarch's pet ho to go home while the crowd chants "USA" was a fun moment. "Aksana, that part where you just fell like a piece of shit on Alicia's knees... well, we wish you well in your future endeavors." With these singles matches I think we have officially moved from WWE Dragon Gate to WWE Strong Style (with Sheamus/Cesaro) to some kind of WWE BattlARTS. Ambrose and Wyatt just punish each other in their own bizarre ways. Some of Dean's punches are actually looking credible instead of inconsistently wild this time and the weird Irish whip neckbreaker (?) was something I've never seen before. (Side note, I might have to actually watch Road to Paloma. Lisa Bonet! And for a split second I thought Jason Momoa was Roman Reigns.) Holy shit man, this match is a postmodern masterpiece. Ambrose is trying to put his shoulder back in his socket and still crazy enough to bust out a plancha and a missile dropkick. Yet another fuck finish but they had to advance the storyline. Rollins/Ambrose is gonna rule and if you don't think Wyatt can work his ass off then you need to GTFO. Damn good show.
Hollywood Cibernetico Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Remarkably, Summer looks the same with or without the mask.
Matt D Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Remarkably, Summer looks the same with or without the mask. Hey look, it's a Hollywood Cibernetico post. 4
Curt McGirt Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 With these singles matches I think we have officially moved from WWE Dragon Gate to WWE Strong Style (with Sheamus/Cesaro) to some kind of WWE BattlARTS Let me explain myself. There are no submissions and there is nothing resembling the level of BattlARTS stiffness, but this was like Alexander Otsuka vs. Alexander Otsuka. Two guys with random and strange offense that will blast the hell out of you. Actually, I don't know what to call this match, except awesome.
Greggulator Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Smackdown RULED. Oh dear. I'm trying to think of when there was a single episode of wrestling this year that had this much quality stuff. Certainly nothing w/o Daniel Bryan. This was a blast.Reigns/Wade felt like the first draft of a match we're going to see at a PPV for something important some day. Wade's gotten so good. Roman hasn't had a singles match this good yet. He did really good work selling like a face should and made a great comeback before the destruction of 3MB. Heath Slater is an absolute freak and we should wish him well for willing to have some sort of cataclysmic injury for our entertainment.Sheamus/Cesaro was awesome. Just two dudes beating the absolute fucking hell out of each other for a while. The ending to this was so great and absolutely perfect. I really want to see something like a 2-out-of-3 falls match or the like come from their feud. Great stuff.Dean/Wyatt will have a PPV Main Event match at some point in time. This was absolutely incredible between my two favorite guys in the world right now. Dean was so awesome selling the hell out of his arm. Bray's theatrics are unreal. The apron bump Dean took was disturbing. I love Dean flying all around despite his arm being out-of-socket because that's what he should do. The end of this, too, was perfect with Seth getting in Dean's head and costing him the match. I loved Bray stealing a win in this fashion -- his quest for absolution doesn't mean he has to fight with any sense of honor.Even Jay vs. Rowan was a really good short match.Aksana's final match says it all. How long has she been around? Oh man... 1
mattdangerously Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Ambrose vs Wyatt ruled. Those two are so good at looking like they're trying to cripple their opponent. This may be the second coming of Regal vs Finlay. 1
