_MJ_ Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I know it won't happen, but Thibs coaching Golden State is very intriguing on paper. How would he handle a team filled with legitimate offensive threats? Plus, the Warriors players have shown they're willing to play defense under Jackson. Not going to happen, but hmmm...hmmm, indeed.
goodhelmet Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Hmmm...Jackson makes a team better and is fired. We'll see who they hire but I smell D'Antoni going to the Bay. Wonder what would happen today if Pop had this start to his career...
Charlie M. Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Well he knew how to coach and explain his coaching beyond preaching at people so I think he would have been fine. I'm begging one talking heads to bring up Lionel Hollins. The Grizzlies replaced him with an unknown in a similar situation and if they don't have injuries, they're a top seed and still playing.
Burgundy LaRue Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 In theory, I understand why Jackson got fired. If you don't get along with your boss, your boss will fire you. But I don't know if the Warriors will bring in anyone who can do much better, especially in the stacked West.
Charlie M. Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Simmons and Marc Stein think it'll be Stan Van Gundy with Steve Kerr going to the Knicks.
Cole Miner Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Having NBA draft fever. Just want this lottery over with already. I was curious where people think Nerlens Noel would be drafted if he was in this years draft.
AlfredoE Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 MIKE BROWN JUST GOT FIRED AGAIN BY THE CAVS!!!! He got fired right in time to get another coaching job. As far as Nerlens Noel goes, he'd have gone somewhere between 5-10. Probably same as last draft. Assuming he'd have missed the entire college season, but gotten back in time to workout and show teams he was close to getting back to being healthy, then I think he goes in that range again.
JRGoldman Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 People will use this firing to make the Cavs a punch line as always, but this is probably the right move. There are so many good coaches available right now, not even touching people like Fisdale and other top assistants.
AlfredoE Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 There's a lot of coaching options out there. I don't know if either of these guys would be high on my early list for the Cavs. ESPNSteinLine Marc SteinQuestion sure to be asked: How much consideration will Mike D'Antoni/Vinny Del Negro get in Cleveland after working w/David Griffin in PHX
JRGoldman Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 I base this off of nothing, but I could see Gilbert going hard after Coach Cal like he did Izzo the year Lebron left.
Josh Mann Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Stan is probably best served coaching a young team like the Pistons. But I would have LOVED to see what he could have done in Oakland.
Ryan Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 He'll be fired by the AS break and replaced with Dumars and Thomas as co-coaches.
AlfredoE Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Wonder if that means the Pistons won't match an offer sheet on Monroe. I can't see 3 bigs working well in SVG's system when he likes having a lot of outside shooting...then again, there's a lot of Pistons who don't fit. Saw that the Jazz want to talk to Stockton about their head coach vacancy.
Josh Mann Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I see a lot of pick and rolls with sneaky elbows in Utah's future.
Josh Mann Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Per TNT, Steve Kerr is the new coach of the Kni....nay, of the Warriors. Whoa.
Charlie M. Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Oh god, please for the hilarity let Mark Jackson try to coach the Knicks. 2
AlfredoE Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Now its going to be interesting to see who will be Phil's Plan B. I'm going with my dark horse pick as NEW Knicks coach....SLAVA MEDVEDENKO!!!
Jiji Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Oh god, please for the hilarity let Mark Jackson try to coach the Knicks. This HAS to happen. I'm losing it at the thought of this. I don't even think it would be that bad, but Jackson on TV all of the time, preaching on the wired segments would be sooooo great. And, whoa at the Kerr news. Very excited to see what he can do for that backcourt.
sabremike Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 We dodged a bullet here as I don't see why everyone thinks Kerr is the second coming of Red Holtzman. Would love to see Jackson come home.
Charlie M. Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Because we've listened to him have smart opinions on basketball for years on TV?
mco543 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Who else can Phil pluck from the TV booth? I think it just may be Dick Stockton's time. 3
sabremike Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 The creative people of Westchester County have come up with a creative and unique name for the new D League team that will play in White Plains: The Westchester Knicks. At least they are using an homage to the original Knicks logo.
sabremike Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Because we've listened to him have smart opinions on basketball for years on TV? Using that theory Marv Albert should be the next coach.
