Gonzo Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Dr. Jack Ramsey passed away today at the age of 89. Was a little before my fandom as a coach, but he was one of the things I enjoyed about the ESPN NBA broadcasts.
Greggulator Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 RIP Dr. Jack. I know a few people from the Philly college and high school basketball scenes who knew him. They all LOVED him. My old boss also owned a house on the Jersey Shore and he was one of her neighbors. She wasn't much of a basketball fan (or one at all) but knew him, too. I believe their families had some cookouts together, if memory serves correct. She said he was one of the nicest men she had ever met in her life. This Sterling stuff sucks even more now! Dr. Jack was one of the great faces of basketball. Who didn't love hearing Dr. Jack breaking down a game? Not just that, he was always so positive when calling games -- I don't ever recall him ripping on players, but I do remember him vividly talking people up constantly. We should collectively talk about this and not some moron who is lucky to have a team at all, let alone a really great team courtesy of having two of the best players alive fall into his lap. 1
Josh Mann Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Not to mention that Dr. Jack has an amazing obituary in terms of things he's done. Put it this way: Winning an NBA title with the Rip City Blazers might only be third or fourth on his list of accomishments.
Dolfan in NYC Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Merged the Dr. Jack threads/posts. Really sucks he's gone. The NBA has lost a great voice and a great man.
Greggulator Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 What do Dr. Jack Ramsey, Tina Fey and Todd Rundgrend have in common? They all graduated from Upper Darby High School outside Philly. So did Jim Croce, the guy who wrote Birdy, the girl who co-wrote The Blair Witch Project, Mark Cronin (creator of virtually every sleazy VH-1 reality show), and a guitarist from Cinderella. That's quite the list!
Dolfan in NYC Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 The kid on the left has three times as many championships as the man on the right.
Burgundy LaRue Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 He looks no different outside of the bowl haircut. But what is up with his wardrobe? I want to even up his socks so bad!
Brian Fowler Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I would like to officially welcome the Charlote BobNets fans to this thread. We do have a Charlotte fan or two on the board, don't we?
RandomAct Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I dig Charlotte, since they are my home team. I'd classify them as my #2 team. I loved their effort this season.
Dolfan in NYC Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 This is about to get washed away by the tidal wave of the Sterling decision... but Steve Kerr will probably be the new head coach of the Knicks. Deal expected next week or so.
jaedmc Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I'll pull up a chair over here. When's the draft, again?
muhammedboehm Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 It's like the Tuesday after when ever game 7 is scheduled
Burgundy LaRue Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 One day, the bloom with thrive. Until then. . . Jokes aside, sorry Bulls fans.
jaedmc Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Overall I'm pretty proud of the team. This season got fucked pretty fast and they could have tanked and no one would have blamed them. I like teams that don't give a shit about that and play for the fans. Now I guess I'm waiting to see if Rose is on Team USA so I can watch that. 1
AlfredoE Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 D'Antoni resigns as Lakers coach....I hope they don't hire any other Mike as the next head coach.
muhammedboehm Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 ESPN is reporting Lakers are in need of a new coach. Would assume there short list is Pacers coach, Thunders coach, or Kobe as player/coach.
sydneybrown Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Well, one more Thunder loss and the Lakers can probably pick up Scott Brooks... 1
LooseCannon Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 D'Antoni resigns as Lakers coach....I hope they don't hire any other Mike as the next head coach. If you really don't want Mike Woodson, then Vinny del Negro is available.
Kuetsar Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 D'Antoni resigns as Lakers coach....I hope they don't hire any other Mike as the next head coach. If you really don't want Mike Woodson, then Vinny del Negro is available. So is Ty Corbin, apparently he had a raw deal in SLC, at least that what the local new media said. . . LOL
AlfredoE Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Fuck y'all... Magic's reaction to D'antoni getting fired! Earvin Magic Johnson Happy days are here again! Mike D'Antoni resigns as the Lakers coach. I couldn't be happier! Bonus video! 1
Burgundy LaRue Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I imagine Alfredo spinning around in his living room. dancing and singing his heart out!
AlfredoE Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Well, I didn't go that far, but I did think D'Antoni's time was coming to an end. Especially when they had a couple of games were the opposing team scored like 150 bazillion points on the Lakers. It should be interesting to see who they hire because the last two coaching hires have been awful.
Craig H Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 D'Antoni resigns as Lakers coach....I hope they don't hire any other Mike as the next head coach. If you really don't want Mike Woodson, then Vinny del Negro is available. YES! V-D-N! V-D-N! V-D-N! It would make for a great book somewhere down the line where he writes about coaching the Bulls and not giving more minutes to their best player and then somehow being hired to coach both LA teams.
