Brian Fowler
It's the only Bond film I unequivocally hate. I've never even be able to bring myself to watch all of it at once.
odessasteps
Its def something that should be watched in chunks (ie director). I freely admit its a surreal mess, but that why i like it.
Jiji
It's the '60s to the very core. I'll rewatch it during the upcoming Bond marathon. I don't get the nasty tone not being Bond. Bond is a ruthless assassin and QoS/Licence to Kill Bond is a heckuva lot more closer to Fleming's Bond than Roger Moore's Bond. The scene where Bond lumps Mathis in the dumpster was perfect. The plot wasn't particularly great and really emotionally dulled compared to the high water mark of Casino Royale (see what I did there... high water mark?!). Brian Fowler
To me, movie Bond is a completely separate (and better) thing from book Bond. Some of the Moore films, especially, go to far with the silliness, but Bond is an adventure film series about a gentleman thug who loves the finest things in life. You take away the lifestyle, the wit, etc, and you aren't making a James Bond film. (There's also the small detail that the director of QoS had flat out stated he hates James Bond movies and purposefully made his film add unlike one as he could. No gun barrel, no "Bond. James Bond", virtually no jokes, etc...)
Jiji
Okay, I love book Bond, but I gotcha. We agree that Casino Royale is one of the best, if not the best though!

Brian Fowler
Something about like Casino Royale and seeing a way to make a Bond film he liked or something.
twiztor
finally got around to watching Spectre. long story short, i liked it but i sure didn't love it. if you cut out the part of the film where they go to the secret Egyptian base, the villain reveals his entire master plan to Bond, Bond escapes, one shots a bunch of guards, and blows the place up, the film literally would not be missing anything. a completely tacked-on scene that i'm guessing they felt they had to have in there because it's typical "Bond". seriously, nothing important happens there whatsoever and it seemingly doesn't disrupt the villain or his plans one bit. also, this is probably old news, but the theme song sucked. the video was decent but not spectacular, but the song is a shitty choice for a Bond film. J.T.
I saw Spectre last night. Liked it but didn't love it as much as Skyfall or Casino Royale. I fucking hate the theme song. I still say they dropped the ball on never giving Sade or Liam Gallagher a chance, but from the looks of the music news today, Oasis won't be getting back together anytime soon to perform a Bond theme. Jiji
I loved it. There were a few issues here and there (the villain's motivation has been discussed in here, and while I don't think it was that terrible, it was a bit disappointing), mostly with how insane Bond was in the opening. How were there no dead civilians in that explosion? Why was he so intent on killing the pilot in an area with thousands of innocents right there? I didn't like that Quantum was just some sub-section of Spectre either. It felt a little tacked on. But all of the stuff about change and the interplay between Bond and Swann was great. I really hope Craig and Mendes are done with the series. A follow up would undo everything they accomplished with the character over the last four films. I'd rank them as follows: 1) Casino Royale (second only to From Russia With Love overall) 2) Spectre 3) Quantum of Solace 4) Skyfall 3 and 4 are pretty interchangeable. While Quantum had pretty boring villains (that bowl cut wig though!) and action pieces, I enjoyed the tone and what they were doing with Bond's character. Also, it was neat for them to broach the topic of global warming/oil industry. They also introduced the Spectre-like Quantum group, which was rad. Skyfall was just too much of a TDK knock-off for me to get emotionally engaged. It's not bad and still probably ranks in the middle tier of Bond films for me, but I don't get the hype. NOW SIGN UP IDRIS ELBA, MOTHER FUCKERS.

I say we make our own Bond knockoff just so we can have Sade and her band do the entire score. Really, I don't care about the script or actual production. You can delegate tasks to other people as you see fit. I just want to meet Sade.
Brian Fowler
DVDVR Films project, JT? You know, doing a thinly veiled Bond formula ripoff but as a hard R isn't the worst idea ever.
AxB
Liam Gallagher Noel is the talented one. Liam is the one who pronounces the word Shine like it's got an extra syllable, and doesn't show up to his child custody hearings.

AxB
When comparing one to the other, yeah. When comparing them to their immediate contemporaries, well: "You have to realise, I've been operating at about 98% of my potential throughout my career. I'm not about to go off and make a hip hop album or a Chinese Opera". - Noel Gallagher on the difference between himself and Damon Albarn.

J.T.
DVDVR Films project, JT? You know, doing a thinly veiled Bond formula ripoff but as a hard R isn't the worst idea ever. No one will be using the license for that shitty Alpha Protocol spy-fy RPG game anytime soon. Shall we go Uwe Boll and do a video game movie and have Sade provide the vocals for the theme? Our movie is sure to be more awesome than the game so we can also get royalties from the re-launch of the game franchise. The notion that: Blofeld seems to have formed SPECTRE for the sole purpose of getting back at Bond because Blofeld has daddy issues. nearly took me out of the movie. Thank God that Big Dave as Nise Oddjob was fucking king sized and the Holy Trinity of M, Q, and Moneypenny were also awesome. So, Sam Mendes's veiled jab at the Russian government was not so veiled. RIP Mr. White.
Brian Fowler
My god Live and Let Die is just unrelenting in its "virtually all black people are criminals" racism. I always remember the racism being more casual than it actually is.
TheVileOne
The book version was probably a little more blatantly racist. Solitaire has no problem referring to the bad guys as the n word. Not to mention Mr. Big feeding the good ole Texas boy Leiter to the shark.
Chaos
On the topic of theme songs, I kind of hate that Muse didn't get a Bond theme. You can kind of hear what they were working on for when Skyfall came out on their "The 2nd Law" record with "Supremacy." That song would have worked loads better than the terrible Sam Smith song we got in Spectre. I don't fault them at all for striking the Adele iron while it was hot.
Dolfan in NYC
Supremacy fit in a lot better with You Know My Name and Another Way To Die theme of rock anthems to Craig's Bond. Someone did the work and put them together, looks fine: As for the next Bond, if it's not Idris, there's one guy who looks like he was born for the part: Neville Longbottom
