PetrolCB
Didn't Sid quit midway through that house show run with Warrior? I think I remember reading he walked out during a show, because he was tired of doing jobs. Also because softball season was starting up.
FluffSnackwell
What I read is that the failed drug test is what got the whole ball of shit rolling downhill in the first place leading to the heel turn. Yeah, Sid wanted to pursue his professional softball career whatever the fuck that entails. That, too.
Tromatagon
I think it entails being paid money to play softball
FluffSnackwell
Yeah, but more than a McJob? Or doing jobs to Burger Queen Lawler in the shithills of Tennessee? Doesn't sound very sustainable to me. But at least he didn't have fight off Flyin' Brian with a squeegee as a softballer.
Tromatagon
he worked in USWA forever, I don't think he cares about money
AxB
There was a Sid fan in my GTA lobby earlier today. His PSN was PhyscoSid5150. Physco. Bloody Fisco. Pillock.
NintendoLogic
Who was the first wrestler to put tape on his fists like a boxer? My guess would be Abdullah or Terry Funk.

BurningBeard
it was always illegal to tape your fist, and a Taped Fist Match was a fued ending gimmick back in the day (latest example I can think of it being used was Windham v Pillman in 91?) so yeah I'd guess Funk in 89. Brody would tape his knuckles but I guess that's different.
Michael Sweetser
Also, Duggan doing taped fists in 1996 and feuding with Big Bubba. (My bad typing ended up with "taped fish" at first. That'd be interesting. )
odessasteps
Didnt guys used to tape their fists when they had street fights and brass knux title matches in the 70s?

Michael Sweetser
I'm imagining it as big salmon just X-taped to the knuckles, so there's a nice "smack" sound with every punch.
NintendoLogic
Against my better judgment, I did a Google image search for "taped fish." Behold: Spoiler How would a taped fish match work? Would you have to ram your opponent's fish into all four corners?
Nice Guy Eddie
I also googled "taped fish" and came across said photo.

Spritenaut 32
Damn it. That taped fish photo made me laugh uncontrollably in the middle of our local med school library (where I'm supposed be studying, but obviously am not).
BurningBeard
Did Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart ruin tag team wrestling? I was listening to The Revival on the Stone Cold podcast and they brought up a point I'd never picked up on before - all the best tag teams from the 70s and 80s effectively operated as way to mask holes in a wrestler's skillset in order to get featured higher on the card. Whether that was one guy being good on the mic and one guy sucking, one guy being a technical wizz and the other being a strong man etc etc and so they'd stick together for a career usually. When Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart broke away from tags they became two of the best and most respected single competitors of all time. As such, with almost every tag team that came about afterwards there was always some buzz or discussion about who the breakout star was going to be when the team inevitably split up (Billy Gunn, Booker T, Jeff Hardy etc) as opposed to two so-so wrestlers just being a great unit who together were the complete package. joseph2112
Maybe to a degree, but it also dovetails into the thought that Vince hates tag team wrestling, so you weren't really going to see it pushed at all since 2001.
Michael Sweetser
It's easier - and cheaper - to push one guy than two.

NintendoLogic
Did any wrestlers before the Steiners wear amateur-style singlets with short legs? Plenty of guys wore singlets, of course, but they either had long legs like Bret Hart's or no legs like Nikita Koloff's. Random question, I know.
