cool arrow
Yeah, that was in '01. Was Lawler feuding with Tazz in '99, or was that the next year? And yes, Stacy was Miss Kitty/The Kat.
Captain Kronos
I don't think I have ever seen a full ep of 99 SD! -- is possible he's on there? As annoying and juvenile as he could be at times, I really miss hearing a heel commentator. Cornette just shouts a lot on this ep.

Cobra Commander
Maybe it was the day of the election Lawler was running in in Memphis? the election was held on October 7th, 1999 (a Thursday, which is how Tennessee does things for most non-November Federal elections). So that's 3 months after that episode of RAW. An article mentioning the 1999 campaign also noted that he made $150K thru RAW, $30K thru PPVs, $25K thru local TV and $10K wrestling. Casey
wasn't 1998/1999 the period of time when they'd have basically anyone hosting RAW with JR? Cornette, Kevin Kelly, Michael Cole... hell, Sunday Night Heat was Cornette & Shane McMahon for a time.

If he were making 150K per month/show on Raw, he'd be netting multi-millions from just that
Bustronaut
Rewatching some WCW PPVs via the network I notice that the brought Tenay in to do the Lucha matches (of course) but I never knew that Lee Marshall was brought in as a women's wrestling specialist?!?!? Of course he went on to be the voice of WoW as well... Is this something Stagger Lee was known for before WCW?

Captain Kronos
Anyone know how much Elizabeth was paid in the second half of the 80s? And would her $$ have increased as Randy moved up the card? Curious how it works for valets, especially one as prominent as Liz.

Savage always seemed to work out a good deal with his friends/family. see: Lanny's WCW deal, which has to have been the best contract ever. Cobra Commander
better than Nailz's contract where he made one appearance in WCW and got paid for 7 years after that?
thee Reverend Axl Future
better than Nailz's contract where he made one appearance in WCW and got paid for 7 years after that? Lanny Poffo never worked once, and was paid, although he did dye his hair blonde in preparation for the Gorgeous George gimmick. - RAF
cool arrow
That whole story is so fucking stupid. Why did they end up giving the GG name to Savage's girlfriend anyway?
Kuetsar
That whole story is so fucking stupid. Why did they end up giving the GG name to Savage's girlfriend anyway? Because it was late 90's WCW?
Josh Mann
Because Savage bought the name rights from GG v1's estate and told them so.
cool arrow
Yeah, I know that, but I meant what happened with Lanny? Why did he never wrestle?
BEN!
A few years after WCW had Lanny Poffo signed and never bothered using him, they signed The Maestro who was working as Gorgeous George III and he was supposed to use that gimmick but Savage met that yak that had him running round with his nose wide open and he wanted her to be named Gorgeous George for whatever reason. So she was. Apparently, Randy Savage was just a big fan of the original Gorgeous George. I question whether he ever actually owned the name though. Tromatagon
He bought the gimmick from Maestro who bought it from George's family. That's why Maestro got the job with WCW too.
cool arrow
I was under the impression (and bear in mind I wasn't paying much attention to WCW at that point) that Hogan wanted a wrestler called Gorgeous George so that he could say he beat GG, so someone bought the rights to the name for Lanny to use, and then for whatever reason they didn't use Lanny and just gave the name to Savage's girlfriend because they had it anyway. Whatever, the whole thing was so stupid it could only happen in WCW.
RandomAct
The Maestro story is legit, because he stopped using the name after he left WCW.
Stuttsy
Yeah the story/ timeline as I have always understood it was more or less: Savage insisted Lanny get a contract too. Later on (and unrelated) Hogan decides he wants to do Hogan vs. Gorgeous George as some type of battle of the icons (ignoring the fact that George has been dead for decades) and has WCW acquire the rights to the name from Rob Kellum, who negotiates a spot for himself as the Maestro as part of the deal. Presumably unrelated although possibly indirectly related since this is when everyone was more or less still friends and Savage could have conceivably suggested his brother for the spot, someone comes up with the idea of using Lanny as the new Gorgeous George for the deal. Lanny is all for it but someone changes their mind on the whole thing and it never materializes.
