This Weather Sucks

Dolfan in NYC

We moved to a place nearby last year and my dad did the bulk of the construction.  He put new pipes and sufficient insulation to handle most winters.  But apparently it couldn't handle a winter like this and the pipes for the kitchen sink/fridge froze up on us.  So he had to come down last night and put more insulation around the pipes to help thaw it out.  Hated that he had to come down at night but he was worried of possible leaks hence the hurry.  Nothing kicks off an arctic blast quite like the threat of leaking pipes.  And to top it off we're going to Magfest at National Harbor and heard about all kinds of weird snowfall/winds that's going to make for an interesting time getting around.  My wife is cosplaying and there's a part of her jacket that can't get rained/snowed on, so that's going to be an interesting challenge.

It's so cold that it's killing SHARKS.

https://www.theweathernetwork.com/news/articles/sharks-washing-up-freezing-cape-cod-massachusetts-extreme-cold/92904/

Several thresher sharks were found washed up off Cape Cod in Massachusetts last week when temperatures were at their coldest, and those same temperatures are at least partially to blame for their deaths. They were migrating south as seas cooled, and washed up on the hook-like peninsula (as the New York Times reports occasionally happens to dolphins). Two were first spotted dead on December 27.

"Both of these male sharks were nearly the same size and likely stranded due to cold shock," the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy reported on Facebook that day. "Morphometric data, organs, and tissue samples were collected to be examined (once they thaw)."

Conservancy staff later found a second shark on December 29, that was actually too frozen to take samples from.

"We hauled the shark off the beach and it is currently thawing at NOAA Fisheries Service to be dissected later. A true sharkcicle!" a Facebook post read.

Thank God I never drive over that bridge anymore. Talk about white knuckle time

Years ago, when I had a little Ford escort,  I was blown out of my lane.  Much prefer the route 40 bridge (Plus cheaper for locals with EZ Pass discount)

It's so cold in florida and Texas that sea turtles are getting cold-stunned and washing up on shores:

and  Iguanas in southern florida are falling out of the trees, not they are invasive so maybe they'll be collected

It's not really that bad here, I mean it is winter and so it will be chilly, but nothing like what you guys on the east coast are going through. It IS considerably colder than it was last week, so much so that we're usually waking up with six or seven (out of a possible ten) cats crowding into the bed with us. For the record, 1-3 is cute and enjoyable (they're like little portable heaters that purr), 4-5 is kind of crowded and annoying, 6-7 is just insufferable; as you know that as soon as you move, the fight will start...

It's been cold as a Canuck for over a week now and for some reason it's now forecast to be in the 40s and rain mid-week before dropping down into more normal January Wisconsin Death, who booked this?
