MARCH WRESTLING DISCUSSION THREAD

The only watchable scaffold match I've ever seen is JT Smith vs. the Dark Patriot in ECW.  It wasn't great by any stretch of the imagination, but they weren't afraid to do some stuff.

Bill Dundee and Sweet Brown Sugar

Never seen that one.  Is it on Youtube or Dailymotion?

NM, found it on Youtube.  Will report on it later.

I liked the Dreamer/Brian Lee Scaffold match in ECW a decent amount.  Possibly because over half the match is them brawling on the floor before they climbed up the scaffold, and then they had all the tables in the ring to break the fall (and look really cool) so they weren't completely petrified to move up there.

Of course, my reasons it didn't suck compared to other scaffold matches is because they did things to make it not a scaffold match...

You say the midnights didn't want to be up there but that was the third scaffold match Bobby Eaton was involved in and he would go on to work one more at the GAB 91. There is another Midnight/RNR scaffold match on the Mid South 80s project set. I doubt it is their preferred match but they had seemingly had no issue doing the match multiple times throughout their careers.

Hey darlin. Who was your nicest boss and why was it Dixie Carter?

I have had a lot of GREAT wrestling bosses like Watts, Dusty, Jerry Jarrett, etc--NICEST boss I ever had was Cary Silkin--I considered Jeff Jarrett my boss in TNA and Dixie was there because she had a rich Daddy, darlin--

:(

I'm not the biggest Cornette fan, as over the years I've found his outbursts to be really repetitive and whiny, but that right there is comedy.

Scaffold matches drew well and work really well live.
I think with better video equipment or editing both the MX scaffold matches from Mid South could work well on TV. But it's something that doesn't translate that well to taped audience ( blindfold matches which demand live participation as audience tells face which way the heel is are also something that gets over live but is worthless on tape), and with the equipment that they had really doesn't come across.
The Don Greene v Jerry Jarrrett scaffold match I think still works on tape.
As does the Dundee v Sweet Brown Sugar.
The El Profe v Chicky Starr also translates to tape well.

Who would be the top female wrestlers in the world right now.

In the world, I'm not sure.. but WWE it has to be either Paige or Emma.

I'll have to give them another shot sometime. I made it about three minutes into their Arrival match and had to turn it off. Super sloppy transitions and moving like a snail to try to make up for not being able to do smooth transitions did not impress me very much.

I hope we get some WAR-esque randomness out of a 6 man tag title division.

The over the top contraption in CZW's Cage of Death 5 was the most watchable scaffold match I've seen, although I have no idea how well that match holds up.  Perhaps I'll pop the tape in later.

Davey Richards and Teddy Hart need to have a scaffold match and do an indy respect spot on top of it.  Then Davey can no-sell the floor bump followed by Teddy doing 3 moonsaults off of it.

Fine, Jim Herd's an asshole.  Great.  He's also been out of the business for over two decades.   The company he ran hasn't even existed for well over a decade.  And yet he still lives rent-free in Cornette's head.  It's just not healthy.

RVD's rolling senton works a lot better as a post match taunt than as an actual piece of offense.

Haha well-done, Kid.

I am a little bit worried about this being a fight, though, which every kid in the neighborhood chose to watch and film. Maybe it was a work all along?

Random:  Orndorff has been publically bitter about his perceived place in Rasslin History. I am watching some 1984 WWF today. Orndorff is certainly good. He had a great physique, too. But I feel like he lacks a certain spark which would put him within the all-time greats. People like Hogan needed a guy like him to work off. But it doesn't mean Orndorff is at Hogan's level.

It got me to thinking. Who would be in the same place today? Someone who was decent enough, who could work Main Event and Upper-Midcard matches adequately. But who just isn't quite there when it comes to calling him a superstar. Kane, maybe?

His angry man schtick works better in print than audio or video.

If it was, then WWE needs to hire these kids to show their guys how to throw punches.

Foley said Bobby was the only person to make a scaffold match look good because he actually worked up there. I think I saw MX/Roadies from the Bash on tape way back in the day, and remember it completely sucking, so what do you guys think about it?

Was going to mention the Brian Lee/Dreamer one before I saw Brian's post. At least in that one you got to see a huge dude blast through a ring full of tables...

That's a tough one. Kane, despite some of the bullshit they've had him do, hasn't ever not been over. Plus, he had the WWF title for a day in addition to the "lifetime achievement" ECW and WHC runs, which is more than can be said for Orndorff as far as meaningful runs.  I mean, Kane and Bryan polished the hell out of that Dr. Shelby turd-- compare that to Orndorff's motivational talk from Gary Spivey.

As far as someone who I'd put in that boat today, I'd have to say The Miz, despite his time with the title. I liked his smarminess, but the fact is, he, like Orndorff, was unfortunately part of one of the lesser-celebrated WM mains despite being surrounded by stars, and probably won't reach that level again unless there is some serious rehabilitation to his character.

Its not like he said it unprompted. Someone asked and he answered.

And a lot of it is Cornette working shtick. Like asking Rodney Dangerfield about his ex wife so he can do zingers.
