THE GOOD NEWS THREAD!

First day back was a blast. A shockingly busy Sunday at the casino, and I was fucking exhausted by the end of the 8-hour shift (big change from 4 weeks of sitting in a recliner watching Weeds and Community in your Zubaz), but nobody has ever been happier to be at work than this guy was yesterday.

Was supposed to be off until Saturday, but I got called in for a 6-hour shift today. Stoked.

A good friend of mine has an interview with the company I work for today. He's got plenty of experience in the field, so he should be a shoe-in to get hired. After only getting to see each other once in a blue moon, between work and families and stuff, it'll be great to potentialy see each other regularly.

After months of stomach pains and fatigue, my wife had a CT scan last week.  The result showed "something" on her adrenal glands, enough to warrant a follow-up PET scan.  Doing some research, we learned that colon cancer like she had usually returns in the form of cancer on..... the adrenal gland.  With that in mind, we met with her oncologist this morning to get the PET scan results.  And, as you probably guessed because of where I'm posting this, the test came back clean.  NO CANCER.  Such awesome news.  She still has to see a G-I doctor to get her stomach looked at but we at least know it's not cancer!

So a guy I know got hit by a minivan just crossing the street to pick up dinner tonight, but walked away with nothing worse than a little bleeding and like a bruised rib.

Also, he still went and got dinner. When people are hungry people are hungry. I retorted "well it was only a minivan, not like it was a tank or a dinosaur or something".

Nice to be able to crack a joke like that after such a break.

To add to the Workin' Man gimmick: I did my first double-shift on Saturday. 9am to 5pm at the casino, and then 8pm to 2am at the pub on the door. First doorman shift since the concussion.  Everyone at the pub was fucking ecstatic to see me, and we had two fun bands. Great night. Happy to be earning a living again.

Fixed the burnt out ignitor on my Gas stove like a TIM THE TOOL MAN TAYLOR MAN.

Continued my dominance over the grocery store claw machine and got what can only be described as a fossilized skeleton pillow.

Maybe the DVDVR Dads, Moms, Aunts, & Uncles can relate to this...

Usually my oldest sister watches our other sister's two kids (ages 4 and about-to-be 3 months) while she's at work, but the oldest sister had hernia surgery last Friday, so the kids are stuck with me for a couple weeks.

Had some errands that had to be taken care of today, so I waited until the 4 year old was picked up from pre-K, and had my first "road trip" with an infant in the vehicle.

The little boss instantly fell asleep and was so quiet it scared the crap out of me for a while. At every stop we had to make, I would give him a kiss on the forehead or do something to make him react even though he was sleeping, just so I had the piece of mind that he was OK and I wasn't going to be facing a violent death at the hands of his parents.

We make it home, and he promptly wakes...and poops. I can live with that.

First time I was left alone with my oldest, she was only a month old.  As soon as my ex left the house, Zoe started screaming hysterically and wouldn't stop. I couldn't soothe her with anything so I just lay her down in her crib...and she was deathly quiet in just moments.  Scared the fuck out of me, so I stormed into her room...to find her sound asleep.

First time in the car with c was on the way home from the hospital.

I have a heavy right foot. got me into trouble a couple of times. the term, drive it like you stole it applies to me, rental cars or company cars.

The first time I took baby c home i was driving like morgan freeman in DMD. she was thankfully asleep throughout the 20 minute ride. But i suppose most new dads drive home slowly, not only as they've got precious cargo, but they've also got someone who's recently been stitched back together.

Its an invaluable tool to get the kid off to sleep, i find. something to do with the vibrations and noise of the car being a good backdrop for white noise.
